Hi I want to load a picture from facebook as my avatar but it's not allowing it. Help please? Lewis The easiest way is to use TinyPic.com to upload the photo and use resize to create the Avatar at the correct size (less than 100 x 100 pix.) You can then put the URL that it creates into the avatar box of your profile. (You may have to download it from Facebook in the first place) It will have a finite life but will be long enough for this purpose. Tony

Actually I'm going to disagree with Barleman (sorry Buddy!)
Proboards now allows you to upload your own avatar to the site. The benifits of this are speed, bascially each page where you post won't have to go and look up the image and remotly link it (that slows everyones webpage down).
If you upload it irectly to the site (like my new avatar image) it should be faster for us all. I would recommend re-sizing your picture to 100x100 pixels. This will decrease the file size and again save space on the server and speed.
I have tons of image editing software, so if anyone wants me to create an avatar for them (the correct dimentions and small file size whilsts still maintaining good image quality) then feel free to throw and message my way and I'll gvie you my email address and do it for you :)

Do you know if uploaded avatars eat into our available attachment space and are they stored permanently or autodeleted if replaced? (not that they take up a lot of space!) Tony

Tony Your info was indeed correct at the time of writing Barbleboy. I'll yield to you on that :) As for the space, I'm actually not that sure if it eats into the now dimished space your given (250MG I believe). I find it best to make the actual images for Avatars smaller before uploading them. What happens, if you say upload a 2MB pic that you want for your avatar, Proboards will make it smaller, but I doubt they re-size the image. So in effect, whenever any see your avatar, they are having to download a 2MG picture that's been made to look smaller. Then again I may be wrong, but that's how it used to work anyway. My avatar (which for anyone who is asking is what I am going to look like after a special opperation I have planned) in comparrison is a tiny, tiny 6k. So in theory it should ping up on everyones screen and not use space or bandwidth.

Your Avatar Glenn - despite your claim of being a "tiny, tiny 6k" is far too large and "in yer face" for my liking. I have already lodged this under comments: As a general comment, I find the larger Avatars a bit imposing/overbearing. tommo The problem - if it is one (others may not see it as such) - has occurred through the new default setting for Avatars under Version 5 of 150 x 150 pixels. As we know, the early version only allowed a maximum of 100 x 100. So those of us whose avatars have transferred over from one version to another (eg Sav, Sparky, Barbelman) have retained the smaller size, whilst the new ones come straight in at the larger default setting. I have a new one but have scaled it down, as, if you get a page of them in the big size, reading ProBoards is more like reading a comic or a kiddies picture book rather than the novel that it should be! ;) One thing I will yield to you on is that it is dead simple now to install an Avatar.....no need any more to use a hosting website, you can just load one up straight from your own mainframe (MyPics).
