Many congratulations to Geoff Powell of Bletchington SSC on taking the Witney Summer Singles title after a night of excellent billiards at the Masons North Leigh.
In the first semi Geoff was drawn against Thomas Ellis-Rees of the Royal Oak in Burford. Thomas had the break but broke down early and then both players took a while to adjust to the table with Geoff coming out a 6500-2520 winner. He then went off with a reasonable break in the second and another steady victory followed. Geoff Powell 2 (16250) Thomas Ellis-Ress 0 (3650)The second semi saw the two favourites, Mark Trafford and Jon Bamsey drawn against each other. Jon lost the toss and was put in but broke down early on 2.5K to let Mark in. He took full advantage and rolled in an excellent 13,000 break. The game finished 13000-3190. Mark then took the break in the second and scored a steady 6K+ break to put the game out of Jon's reach on the under 17 minute table. To his credit Jon finished off the rest of the time with an 11630 break so the final score was Mark Trafford 1 (19420) Jon Bamsey 1 (14820) - a fine testament to the quality of the table. In the Final Mark won the toss and put Geoff in. Geoff ended up winning this one by 8220 to 2210 after visits by both players but Mark lost a critical 6K+ break which would have made the game very close indeed. In the second game Mark uncharacteristically broke down early, allowing Geoff the opportunity to get a 7600 break in steady style and to put the tie out of Mark's reach even though he finished the rest the time off. Geoff Powell 2 (15820) Mark Trafford 0 (8920) and a new name joined the illustrious list already on the Cup. Presentation were made by our President, Roy Wain to the winners along with the presentation of the Summer Cup to summer league winners Kennington SSC and to one third of the runners-up , the Red Lion Cassington. Many thanks to all who took the trouble to attend, to Jenny and Terry for scoring, for Stacky Barton for giving us an excellent table and to Matt (Landlord of the Masons) for his hospitality and the extensive supper. cheers Tony Attachments:
