The Inter Area 7's will take place at Didcot Con Club on Sunday 23rd Feb 2014. The good news is that drinks will be served at club prices.

Thank you very much for that Pete once again. WIthout this vital help from the Oxfordshire BBA, the Inter Area one-day competitions would not happen - much appreciated.

lets see the figures from this year , takings etc / The accounts are always presented at the AGM Sean - I can mail you a copy if you are really interested. The Inter Area runs on a zero profit basis and absolutely no expenses or honoraria are taken out - like any responsible organisation, we try and keep a year's running expenses in hand at the end of the season. The tables would cost us £520 if the one day was held independently and the raffle proceeds from the one-day comps just about cover trophy costs etc. with any excess being used to cover the costs of running the main KO competitions. The sevens, fives and Under 22s are very popular with Inter Area members and it would be shame if they were not able to be held. regards Tony

As all other Opens are run on a Sunday with other competitions held on the Saturday, for some reason the Oxford Open is run on a Saturday and then the 'other' competition run on the Sunday, that was all I think Sean was originally asking about. I am sure no one is suggesting running these two events on different weekends as that would be ridiculous from both a cost and an organisational point of view.

Im wondering if it might be beneficial to seap the days round for 2015 perhaps to see how it goes, on the basis that more people will be able to attend the open on a Sunday than a Saturday due to possible work commitments, i know for me its easier to do a Sunday for an open rather than a Saturday. Particularly as its a much smaller number on the one day event rather than the open for obvious reasons!

The difference in numbers is much smaller than you think perhaps. In fact, we have 80 to 85 people at the Inter Area one day event (who stay all day due to nature of the contest) as opposed to the 76 entries (in 2102) for the Oxfordshire Open. The Oxfordshire has been on a Saturday since it's inception but I do agree that it would be better on a Sunday and I am actively trying to find alternatives to the present arrangement as far as the Inter Area is concerned. Phew - well that's that for another year! The results of the Inter are One Day event for 2014 were; Open Seven-a-sides for the Norrey Lambert TrophyWinners Wallingford Runners up Reading Highest break was 17,350 by Keith SheardWallingford won the final by 5-2 and were imperious all day. GROUP A | Won | Points | Wallingford | 3 | 17 | Witney | 2 | 11 | Wycombe | 1 | 10 | Portsmouth | 0 | 4 |
GROUP B | Won | Points | Reading | 3 | 13 | Northants | 2 | 11 | Eynsham | 1 | 11 | Oxford | 0 | 7 |
Ladies five-a-side for the ProPlumb Shield Oxford regained the title in fine style with holders Reading as runners-up GROUP A | Won | Points | Oxford | 3 | 12 | Reading | 1 | 8 | Witney | 2 | 7 | Wycombe | 0 | 3 |
Highest break went to Deb Surman of Witney with 6700!The Ray Sturgess Cup for under 25s
Champion is Lewis Stratford of Eynsham with Stephen Coleman of Northants as runner-up. We had seven entries for this and the standard of play was excellent throughout. Players were divided into two groups with the winner of group A playing the runner-up in group B and vice-versa in the semis Group A | | | Group B | | Adam Ingram | 3 | | Stephen Coleman | 2 | Phil Mcfarlane | 2 | | Lewis Stratford | 1 | Danielle Chewings | 1 | | Kirsty Jarvis | 0 | Callum Bowler | 0 | |
|
|
In the semis Stephen beat Phil by two to nil and Lewis beat Adam by the same margin. In the final Stephen took the first game by 8170-2760 but Lewis broke with 12,590 on his break to deservedly take the title. Very well done Lewis - played well all day! Highest break was Lewis' 12,590. Many thanks to all who contributed to making it a successful day and to Jenny Parsons and Terry Alder for their great help. Tony

Well done and thank you for a cracking day Tony, i know that i thoroughly enjoyed myself!
I would just like to thank my team on the day who were able to play at very short notice, and although it was a tough day for us im really proud of them! Overjoyed# Im particularly glad of the fact our games could of gone either way too so by no means did we attend just to fill in the numbers! Cheers lads :)
Massive well done to Lewis and commiserations to Stephen. Lewis played as good as ive ever seen him and even his old man said he had never seen him play that consistent! Steve had a cracker as well and was as ever gentlemanly in victory and in defeat in the final, fantastic showing all round and I can only say i feel priveliged to be a part of that :)

Just wanted to firstly thank Tony Willis for his once again outstanding organisation to make the day run smoothly, but also with the 3 under 25's playing in the 7's also. Secondly just wanted to say how great it was to see the standard of the under 25's increase so much in the last few years. I remember playing in this competition 2/3 years ago and I myself was only a 800-1000 a leg player, and now its so competitive and frequently seeing breaks of 8k+, and Lewis managing to start with 12k being behind in the final was great (not for me obviously). In the ever decline in the game, its so important to make sure these competitions are filled and played to help better the younger generation, and we now have them knocking on the doors or even playing county and inter area sides, which is great to see!

Thanks to Tony and Mark for an enjoyable well run weekend. Tables were the best I've played on at a tournament.
