B.L.E.P. 5 - 3 Locomotive
The Legioners maintain their unbeaten record with another good win against a strong resurgent Locomotive side. Pete Norrell was star player for the home team with 2 good breaks in both his games on what was reported to be a very tricky top (rumour has it that it is the same table the Legioners forefathers recovered from the Battle of the Somme). The way the men from East Preston are performing these days -odds on favourites to win the Summer league and after having won the Winter league section B, it would be no surprise for members at next Tuesday's AGM to see them to be graded an A team for next season.
Game 1 Eric M blacked when looking comfortable, and Paul Clifford held on for a narrow win, Game 2 Pete N slow start but then played well for a comfortable win against Bob Game 3 Simon not at his best. Tactical play by OBE brought him a narrow win. Game 4 Keith made a good start, but Mr H got the break back towards the end to make it 3 - 1 to the visitors. Pete kicked off with a good break in the first pairs game, and Keith carried Simon in the second. No chance at the break in either game for the Loci players. 3 – 3 on games. Pete’s good scores in his 2 games made the difference to the aggregate.
Henty "A" 5 - 3 Henty "B"
This was reported to be a scrappy affair. Dan beat John; Wayne BP when clear and lost to Captain Dec, Stan faced a banana skin of a game when he lost to Dave Ffyffe, Captain Oates losing to Pete W; Dan & Dave beat Stan & John; in the first doubles with everything hinging on the last game with the boys 3-2 up and 2000+ up on aggregate. Russ kicked off with 500, Pete then somehow knocked in 2000. The boys added 300 more before Russ BP! With 3 balls left. The men were 50 behind in the game and 230 behind in the agg. Pete sunk a 20/30 split and the 200 shot to seal the game and the agg by 5260 to 5240 :-). Fantastic stuff.
