Very pleased that we managed to beat both Sussex and Kent teams with a very good team performance, 3 more points and we would have drawn with Hampshire, so overall we did very well and we managed to gain some excellent experience at this level.

Yes very well done indeed . But if it was left to the original selectors that want to win all the time you wouldn't have had the side you had yesterday . Win with the same people or blood new players at this level .
Keep the game going .

Yes, some good experience had by all the new faces in the team. Also worth noting that Oxford B won 2 matches, whereas Oxford A only won 1 match! Another thing worth noting is that no B side has ever managed to stay up in Division one. The other two times Oxford B have played in Division one, there results were as follows... 2008 - P4 W0 L4 Pts10 2011 - P5 W1 L4 Pts14 So looking at those years, it was a great achievement for Oxford B to have won 2 matches! I hope the people who didn't do so well do not get too disheartened from it and just take it as a good learning curve and hope to be back next year stronger for it.

And if you look at it from another view Leon Beer won 4 out of 5 Keith Sheard won 2 out of 3 These 2 plyers don't even play regular bar billiards for any teams . Take those 6 points away and the B side may have been a bit closer

I think most of the "original selectors" spend all their spare time trying to do just that Sean, usually with very little help or thanks! I agree with your sentiments to a point, but this particular competition is supposed to be for the very best teams that a county can provide, the pinnacle of English Bar Billiards, and there are lots of other competitions that up-and-coming players can participate and grow in until they are 'ready'. I wish other Counties had your philanthropic outlook.... Tony

Teams made up of players that don't play regular in any Oxfordshire league ?? That just about says it all about the state of Oxfordshire bar billiards then .

Win at all costs is what you are saying . In 10 years time when none of our leagues are left because we kept picking the same old players .

This competition is undoubtedly the toughest and highest calibre event I have played in and I thought that both Ian and Lewis played well and were unlucky not to win any games. I thought they both stepped up to the mark and I would like to see them and other up and coming players given the opportunity again, I think giving people the opportunity in the Inter Area 7s in February would be a great opportunity for them and others to gain experience at a similar level before being thrown into this competition. Ian in particular has performed very well at the opens over the last couple of years as have various other 'youngsters' and it would be good to see some new faces given the opportunity to have a go at the bigger competitions. I am sure that I have improved since gaining excellent experience playing as part of the Wallingford A and B teams over the last few years and also by playing in the Inter Area 7s for Wallingford. Indeed if we look at the likes of Stephen Coleman who has been able to get involved in various major events over the last couple of years, even playing for England earlier this year. He then followed that up by winning his first Open. At the same time what we need is a mixture of experience and potential as we need to pick teams who are able to compete and ensure that all those selected are there on merit it is very difficult to have a team which won their division in 2012 not being rewarded by being given the opportunity to play in 2013. I think that the original teams selected were picked with that in mind, as with all things there has to be a balance and this is the difficult part for the selectors. Well done to Mark on completing the team selections and well done to all those that took part.

Just to let the selectors know that I no longer want to be considered for the County Championships in Reading.

Just to let the selectors know that I no longer want to be considered for the County Championships in Reading. Keith Sheard Personally I think that is a real shame Keith as you are one of the best players around and bring a wealth of experience to the team. To add another name to the list of those that will be considered next year, I know that Mark Turner would love to be considered for this competition in future.

Mark is a great player and plays in the Wallingford league sometimes ? so should be considered by the selectors if he's playing well enough. Keith

Keith Hi Keith What you have to remember is that maybe TWO people think you shouldn't play and the other 60 million people in this country (or those of them that play bar billiards) think that you should. You have very good and legitimate reasons for not playing league which I won't go into here 'cos that's your business, but a player of your wit, charisma and ability should be an automatic choice without all this backbiting that you have to suffer every year. Tell 'em to get stuffed and play just to spite them and with the FULL support of 99.9% of Oxon bar billiards! Mark Turner was asked for several years on the trot but always played golf on Sundays so we stopped asking. Nice chap and a fine player and it's good to know he is available again. cheers Tony
