The new season is upon us, here are the fixtures for Monday 30th September... Ye Olde Black Horse (Rottingdean) 3 Hassocks Hotel 2 Laughing Fish 5 Star Eastbourne 0 Plough 1 Glynde Club 4
Cock n Balls 2 Black Horse 3Great to see 3 new venues in the League and one totally new team.... I am sure that the Black Horse team in Rottingdean will soon become known as the "Rotters", if only to distinguish them from the proper Black Horse Team in Lewes!

Nice to see a team back at one of our historic venues, after a gap of 15 years.

I'm looking forward to seeing Gandalf's report on here about the match played at the Plough last night, where it seems that a new "3 Player Rule" was introduced by the visiting team to help the home team out as they only had 3 players.... which, according to the match scores on the Lewes Website means that the game changed from a 4-1 away team for the Glynde Club into a 3-2 home win for the Plough! Assuming that a new rule hasn't been quietly introduced, here is the first league table for the new season.... Pos Team Pl Won Draw Lost For Against Points
1 Laughing Fish 1 1 0 0 5 0 5 2 Glynde Club 1 1 0 0 4 1 4 3= Black Horse 1 1 0 0 3 2 3 3= Ye Olde Black Horse 1 1 0 0 3 2 3 5= Cock N Balls 1 0 0 1 2 3 2 5= Hassocks Hotel 1 0 0 1 2 3 2 7 Plough Plumpton 1 0 0 1 1 4 1 8 Star Eastbourne 1 0 0 1 0 5 0

This was the result that was put on the Lewes website by Gandalf.... and then confirmed by the Plough Captain! Geoff Fairs (0pt) 3770 4260 Mike Daw (1pt) Fenella Fisher (1pt) 2860 1260 Roy Harmer (0pt) Chase Newman (0pt) 2230 8380 Nigel Pead (1pt) Trevor Rees (1pt) 2160 1790 Colin Southouse (0pt) Mark Spicer (1pt) 5400 4510 Chris Turner (0pt) Sadly the plough only had 3 players tonight Trevor and Mark did not turn up, I did say we would play the match as a proper 5 game match Fenella took the place of Trevor and Geoff took the place of Mark, so will leave it to the committee to decide on whether the result is 3-2 or 1-4 I'm really not sure what the Committee have to decide.... there is a nice clear box on the results section that says "walkover" (for when there is no player.... ) which surely is what should have been completed on this occasion? Maybe there are different rules in that strange 4-pin version of the game that they play and they are looking at those by mistake.... PS. Well done Fenella on BOTH of your wins.... you must be top of the averages now!

Hi Gandalf, No further explanation is needed.... you don't want to encourage me by digging that hole any deeper! Glad to see that everybody got a game on the night. i thought you knew i dig holes for a living... so here goes...When Geoff told me he only had three players i was going to say thats 2-0 alredy then. But thats not what came out of my mouth. I heard someone say, just want to make sure that those of my team who had to drive for 1.5 hours to get to the Plough got a competitive game... and it all went downhill from there. Anyway as geoff said at the end it was an enjoyable night for all in attendance, which is great. and we are looking forward to our next match at hassocks hotel followed by an adventure to the "interesting top" at The Star where i will probably get ripped to shreds by the locals especially if i lose. regs cs

Anyway as geoff said at the end it was an enjoyable night for all in attendance, which is great. And that is exactly why we all play the game.... to enjoy it! Personally, I would be quite happy to see a "4 player Rule" come into effect to help teams that sometimes struggle to raise a full side, who knows how many teams may have folded over the years because they have lost one of two regular players and not been able to find replacements.... which could have meant that some players who wanted to continue have now been lost to the game completely? Good luck with your next match at the Hassocks Hotel, it's always nice to go to a new venue.... .... but I suggest you check your fixture list for this match.... followed by an adventure to the "interesting top" at The Star where i will probably get ripped to shreds by the locals especially if i lose. .... as I think you will find that you are at home on the "interesting top" at the Glynde Club where the locals may be kinder to you!
