Horns Lodge 0 CKRBL 5 ;D
Jean Guildford 960 - 1270 Peter Edwards Ben Proctor 470 - 5330 BB Warrior ;) Dave Guildford 1520 - 2230 Ted Stringer Geoff Winson 380 - 1670 Jenny Edwards Mick Palmer 940 - 2830 Derek Taylor
New top at the Horns Lodge, but sadly not set up correctly!! >:(
Despite the home team using a spirit level before the game had started there was still a big roll to the left and it seemed uphill as well, although that could just be because the new cloth slowed the balls down.
This combined with the red spot being put in a different place to the mark on the table made the break interesting...... :o ???
But a good win to keep us chasing for the runners-up spot. ;D

Despite the home team using a spirit level before the game had started there was still a big roll to the left and it seemed uphill as well How do you figure that then, Dave ? Either it must have been a broken spirit level, or they weren't taking a blind bit of notice of it. ::) Imagine putting a shelf up, getting it level, and then your ornaments sliding off. It just doesn't add up.

It just doesn't add up. When I arrived there, they were using the spirit level "up and down" the table, but I didn't see them using it accross the table, perhaps they didn't check that.....?? ??? ::) A couple of our players pointed out the roll to their captain, who said that it was level (he had been the one checking it!), but when I played I found that if you aimed the ball at the right hand 20 hole (without putting side on) it quite effortlessly went round the black peg and hit balls in front of the 10 hole....!! That amount of roll to the left was consistant all over the table. :o If it was set up correctly, it would be a reasonable top. If I was them, I would try the following..... 1) Take the right hand back leg down 2 turns and the right hand front leg down 1 turn. 2) Put the Red Spot on the mark made by Tarratts, at the moment it is half an inch behind which makes it a very thick break. 3) Iron the table, then brush and block it to speed it up a bit. I don't profess to be an expert at setting a table up, but I think that they would be better off rolling balls up the table and then adjusting it rather than using a spirit level - especially one that seems faulty.....!! ;)

Well Said Dave!!!!!!
Well done also on a good white wash, but wait what is that I hear, is it Angels singing, is it birds in a meadow, could it be children playing on a sunny day, nah tis me laughing my arse off, as we too handed out a white wash to our Knockout Cup Finalists The Stand Up.
So we close the gap on the Bridge only to discover we have yet another bye to contend with in a fortnights time, how pissing annoying is that? May have to invite the white van man around to the fixtures secretary to have a gentle word.
Again a Top with a pronounced left hand roll, especially up around the 10 and 20 pockets, which made the 10 20 break back shot damn near impossible but the ball parked up behind the 10 remarkably easy.
STAND UP INN 0 BREWERS DROOPS 5
Lex Schlup 1160 Adam 'one ball' Bateup 1180 A very scrappy opener this one, both players struggled with the roll, both players found way too many pegs, Adam stole ahead in the end only to have Lex catch him and leave Adam needing the 200 to win which he promptly found on his first attempt. 0-1 :D
Tony Ratcliffe 2440 Kevin 'where's my dangly bit' Hall 3040 Captain Tony in on the second and played a good game against Kev, to be fair Kev was in front for most of the game but again the top ruining any chances of anyone hitting big. Tony put in a great comeback break to catch Kev but needed to stay on and clear the last balls and promptly missed, Kev with the easy mop up to take us to 0-2. :D :D
Terry Gasson 2580 Peter ' your right it rolls' Hall 2690 So it fell to Young messer Gasson to save the day and he played superbly to give his teams highest score, but it wasn't enough, Papa Hall stayed steady and consistent to steal into the lead and stay there, despite Terry getting to within a couple of balls of him, Papa Hall dropped the last few to win the tie and match. 0-3 :D :D :D
Bill Francis 1250 Andy 'no need to cry jock' Farmer Wright 2420 Bill stepped up to the plate to save the home team blushes and promptly added to them, a superb display of pegmanship from both players in this one, although Andy was never really under any pressure Bill tried and tried and tried again but too no avail with Andy strolling to the finish. 0-4 :D :D :D :D
Paul Rayner-Brown 2310 Richard 'sniffles' Jeffrey 4050 Again yours truly steps up, ill with a nasty cold and unable to focus on the back of the table, I played a shocking first break shot leaving them both well and I mean well short, Paul stepped in and quickly missed his opportunity, I took me awhile to get going but I got there, thanks to bobble with the timely JD which cleared the vision and enabled the captain to post the teams highest score of the night. 0-5 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
A great laugh with the Stand Up lot, a great spread of food, sarnie's pizza's, crisps and all sorts brilliant. Bad luck to the Stand Up, all of the games could have gone the other way very very easily, looking forward to finals night, tho I think there may be a few changes to the Stand Up team!!!! ??? :P ;) ;)

Well done the Droops on another good win, we had hoped to close the gap a bit last night...... but instead we have to look at all of those Jock smiley's everywhere.....!! >:( :( ::) :'( We will just have to try to win our game in hand in a couple of weeks time, while you guys sit around and wonder how much closer we are getting to you.....!! ;) ;D ;) ;D ;) ;D :P

On any table you should be able to play straight pots to the 20s, 30s and 50s without the ball deviating wildly to left or right. Anyone can forgive a table that plays slightly uphill or downhill, so long as it is 'straight' as described above. Handcross has to be set ever-so-slightly uphill as it has a 'dead' back cushion - otherwise the balls would gather at the back.

Well done to both the Brewers and the CKRBL - Fish beat the Fireman's Arms 4-1 at the Fireman's, don't have the scores to hand at the moment, but it was a good night - table was very reasonable, just in need of an iron methinks as it had a tendency to be a tiny bit slow in a couple of places. Other than that it played beautifully.

Well done to the Droops and Clayton on their whitewashes last night ,the Bridge had their bye last night to put us just 2 points clear of the Brewers but we have that game in hand ;D. If the Northants boys want to come and play in Lewes we could even the division up , but its not my drive when were away ;)

Andy and I had a knock around on ours last night (Thurs) and discovered quite quickly that some one had wound up all the legs to the max, you could even get your finger easily between the bottom of the leg and the fixed section of the leg!!!!! St Francis and the Plough played on it Wednesday night but can't find any match details yet hopefully they will post and let me know how the table played.

Rumour has it that Shaun got the top break on it on Wednesday. I find I must agree, though, that if someone is trying to level a table from scratch, it's best to start with all legs wound down - then adjusting it upwards in stages. When you reach the very top there's no adjustment left as the leg would leave its thread. Which is when as a last resort beermats come into the equation. ;)
