I must say I think the tables were very good , table 1 was a challenge however still perfectly playable, the rest were superb.
Well done on setting them up and a very well run day.

Redhill won all there matches but not the competition (something wrong there somewhere) Same old problem, if a team wins them all they must win the comp. rules need to change.

In many ways Roger I agree with this statement and actually had a discussion with two of the Hastings players about this yesterday. They felt that there should be a "bonus point(s)" awarded for the team that wins a match, which I felt was an interesting idea that could perhaps resolve this problem. Obviously, until somebody actually proposes a rule change to the Sussex AGM nothing will change so it is up to people to do this if they feel that something is needed? Personally, I would much prefer "double legs" (especially for Division 1) in this competition as that gives both players an equal opportunity to win their games, with a bonus point given for the aggregate score win as well meaning that players can get additional points for their team rather than just touching up when they have enough to win the leg with their opponent having no chance to catch them.

Can't really agree here Roger. The comp is based on legs won not matches won. I can't see that a big injustice has been done just because Redhill won all their matches, they dropped legs at the important times which meant they finished behind Brighton If we changed the rules to matches won, a worse scenario could be that a team has 3 breaks out of 7 in one match and get no chance in their 4 legs against the break. They lose 4-3 and win their other matches 7-0 but can't win the competition because of the lost match. That would be a far bigger injustice in my opinion and before people say it is unlikely - how many 10k breaks were made last Sunday - certainly more than 4 so why couldn't they happen in the same match. I dont see it that we play 5 matches in the one day - but 35 legs, and it is that that determines the winner. Of course the home and away inter league has the opposite rules, in that matches won determine the league winners, but I have no problem with that also. The matches are spread over 6 months and they feel far more like individual matches, where captains aim to take 4 legs on the night, and it is a far more exciting format than legs won as many matches go to 3-3 and you have a winner takes all scenario which often makes the match. Also the scenario above (losing a match by losing 4 break games) doesnt really apply because you play each team twice - so can get your revenge in the return match. To be honest I think we have the right system for each competition, I would be disappointed to see it change. Double legs would be good in div 1, but cant see how it could be done effectively with 6 teams of 7 players given time and table constraints. Don't really like the idea of bonus points for winning matches, i think it is enough that it is used as the tie breaker for teams on equal legs. I will await the rule proposals at the AGM then!
