As we head for yet more penalties, some of the best action of Argentina v Holland has come in extra time, with the gauchos having the best chances.

5 (five) - 0 to Germany over Brazil after thirty mins, unbelievable! Interesting comment from TV pundit Fabio Cannavaro (former W/Cup winner with Italy): to save further embarrassment to the hosts they would not have gone on to 7-1 like the Germans (too cruel). Word would have gone out to shut up shop at 4-0. Well isnt he just lovely! I agree with the Germans approach, they had to have one of those games to really make a statement to the other two teams. With the way theyve played tonight, they wont wanna face a rampant German side.

So the Argies win on penalties and the Final is a repeat of 1986 and 1990.

Well the World Cup Final has kicked off and the Germans are the bookies' favourites. Expecting them to stick two defenders on Messi to stifle his talent. But from what I've seen so far the Argies are determined to be just as dirty !

Highlights so far after 20 mins......
A nice dribble from Messi (gets round the back of the German defence) Kramer nearly gets his head taken off. Higuain squanders a good chance (scuffs his shot wide).
30mins...... Argentinian 'goal' from Higuain ruled offside Kramer is subbed (looks groggy) Homedes lucky to stay on the pitch after a knee-high tackle. Shot from Schurrler on target, well saved, ref awards a goal kick to follow !
40 mins..... Good chance falls to Messi Germans are getting a bit rattled, not enjoying as much possession as earlier in the game. But they engineer four good chances just before half time, one from Ozil rebounding off the post.
No goals yet but a good game nonetheless.

2nd half starts and Messi shoots inches wide.......
60 mins.... Drama as the German goalie punches the ball away right on the edge of the area, taking out Higuain at the same time. Ref awards free kick to Germany ! Klose nearly scores at t'other end. Mascherano and Aguero both booked. The pace is hotting up....
70 mins..... A four-man German move almost sees the ball passed into the net. Another glimpse of brilliance from Messi creates a half-chance. Palacio on for Higuain. A chance immediately as he combines with Messi.
80 mins..... Germany now applying pressure at the other end. Tony Cross Kroos shoots wide. A last-ditch tackle by Schweinsteiger saves Germany. Goetze on for Klose.
No score after 93 mins so extra time !

Extra time in the World Cup Final...... Point blank save from Schurrler Followed by Aguero shooting wide at the other end. One bit of brilliance will win this !
7 mins Palacio through on goal but scoops it wide. 10 mins Germany encamped in the Argentinian half. 1st 15 mins is up.....
19 mins Schweinsteiger sustains a nasty injury cut to the cheek: Aguero escapes any punishment. with 7 and a half minutes to go, Goetze scores.....Germany 1 Argentina 0. 27 mins and Messi header just too high. Argies not letting it go easily. 29 mins Muller threads the ball through......just wide. Time nearly up: Messi brought down and has a free kick......ballooned over.
And it's all over in accordance with the famous Gary Lineker quote: "Football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball ... and at the end, the Germans always win"
