Suggest you check the separate threads on this board periodically for: Jelkes SAMS Riley
......where we give an assessment of every table that comes up on eBay.
I'd avoid narrow tables which are only suitable for the 4-Pin variation of the game, and also the modern 'Supreme' tables which are not constructed so well.
Ideally you want traditional tables of the above 3 makes, with sound legs and sound slate. You can usually tell if a table has been well looked after. Average prices for these makes are Jelkes £600, SAMS £500 and Riley £400.
If you find one you have your heart set on, flush out the early bidders and become the top bidder (unless it goes silly, in which case you won't want it anyway !) Then towards the end of the auction (5 minutes to go) slap in an extra bid (that no-one can see) for the absolute most that you are prepared to pay. You may well land it for less, and at least if someone else wins it instead, they'll have had to pay top dollar.
And don't be afraid to register your interest on here as sometimes it can avoid a bidding war between members !

Nah!!!!!
Register your interest on here in the members section by all means so that different members don't finish up fighting over the same table.
Ask questions of the seller as to damage to the all-important slate.
Bidding? absolutely no action until 10 secs before the closure when you confirm a ready set-up bid of the max you are prepared to pay. Ebay will only bid what is needed. Take cash and do NOT pay until you have seen the table and carefully examined the slate, if you do not like what you see then walk!.

Bidding? absolutely no action until 10 secs before the closure when you confirm a ready set-up bid of the max you are prepared to pay. Well, yes that's how an experienced eBayer would play it - but S.Yorks said "but with our ebay skills not being so good" and I am trying to be helpful to the guys here. And not everyone's broadband speed is so reliable that you can operate within a 10 second timeframe. Besides, some auctions end at strange times, maybe the very time when you do not have access to a computer. (Before I had a home laptop I could only view in from my computer at work, which meant no on-line activity at all at weekends). I've missed out on stuff through simply forgetting to be on line at the end of the auction - and I've won stuff by being equally forgetful but at least having put an early bid in which was unopposed. A shark will always beat you in the last five seconds anyway because they have sophisticated software to enable them to do so.

What's anyone's thoughts on the bath tub table on ebay? As Sav said on the main thread, only has novelty value: not the sort of table you'd install in a pub, but okay for private use.
