I am afraid to say I think another team is about to fold this year being Breakaways A, This is made up of Ian Champion, Gary Naftel and Paul Le Gallez this is something the three of us don`t want to happen but feel it is going to with season starting on 7th October with nobody interested. We will try and find the 2 players we need before the season starts but don`t hold much hope!!!!!
I will still come to world championships in November each year.

This would be a great shame Champs, so we hope you get those two extra players you need by the start of the season. The league would not be the same without you lads in it Surely someone will be tempted by the Rangers Club burgers at every home game alternate weeks

Hopefully two players can be found, it would be a shame to loose these three good players from the league.
It may be time for the powers that be to take note and look at some of the proposals put to them in the past notably changing the league to three a side.

Quite right that Bob Chapple and Champs should record their outstanding sporting exploits in their profiles. I duly have added mine.

First practice night of the season for the Layabouts at La Fontaine. High scores (at the bar) Managed in excess of 16 pints plus a few shorts between four of us in a short space of time and Didi was still there when we left. Some things never change

First practice of the season at the Ex Service my new team/venue, table played well. 1 bottle of water (still within legal limit to drive home) ???? Left fixture list with Sue as they did not know the league was starting in two week, Sue had looked on the web site but no info posted.

predictions are
2/3 teams disappear at the end of 2014/2015 season. This could be the last season the league runs?
Guernsey open to be cancelled as the venue has still not been booked
Baulkliners to retain title r/u Layabouts
Island champion Trevor Gallienne. R/u Andy Runnel
Pairs champion Paul Dyer and Matt ogier
Top scoring table la fontaine until week 3 then it will be adjusted to prevent big scores for the away teams.
After that the West legion as no one is prepared to travel that far for a game.
Didi to drink the most cider
Bob C to drink the most water.
Champ to propose a new rule to improve billiards on Guernsey only for it to be defeated at the AGM for the 5th year running.

My predictions are;
League title won by two points separating Baulkliners and Layabouts. Bob Chapple causes water shortage in Victoria Road area. Rangers recruit football Minis to supplement both Breakaways teams. Roadworks on way to Airport cause Baulkliners to move Legion table into Andy Rundle's shop. Cider drinker plants his own orchard to supplement apple shortage. Sign language used for the first time in scoring a game at Rangers club due to volume button jammed on tv remote. Table at Ex Service club moved closer to the bar as it the longest walk in the Island to a bar from the table. Matches at Fontaine to start at 9.30pm due to excessive practice by Giants. Winter league merges into Summer league due to so many cancellations by Breakaways teams.

Just received message by carrier pigeon that Champs can field a team, well at least for the opening fixture. Surprise surprise & good news for the league Only trouble it is in a club not a field, so all being well will see them on 7th October at Ex Service, unless they try and re-arrange the match in the meantime

First match of the season and firstly I must say it was good to see that Champ's team is carrying on, and could field a full team tonight. Don't leave us Result- 7/10/14 - Layabouts 4 Breakaways A 1 Bob Chapple 7,080 Gary Naftel 2,470 Terry Girard 880 Ian Champion 3,050 Mat Ogier 10,740 Paul Le Gallez 920 Norman Wilkinson 4,950 John Skillet (0) BP Paul Dyer 3,270 Nial Bougourd 400 Rookie Bob Chapple was thrown into the Layabouts den first, and watched a 'methodical' Gary hold a lead for the majority of the game. When Bob got his chance with a little over 5 minutes left he took control with a magnificent clearance of exactly 7,000 to seal his first win for his new adopted team. Terry Girard was up against the away team captain and against the break. Ian pumped up from his running exploits and with a new cue to boot. Champs struggled to find his best form on a slow table, and Tel did not quite get the run of the balls on the night. Champs not 'electrifying', but still claimed the point. Oggy was on superb form and made the table look easy whilst every one else struggled. On this performance, it looks like he is going to be very difficult to beat this season. Playing against a player making his Bar Billiards debut (John Skillet) should have been a piece of cake. But playing against an Island Team Snooker player, there were moments when I was worried, as he looked to cause an upset. A natural with his cueing and weight, it was obvious with a little more practice he could quite easily compete with the top players in the Island. Didi should have won this comfortably, which he did if you look at the scores. But he was not flowing as he can do and will have to step up a gear if he comes up against a better opponent. This match classed as a friendly as Breakaways A have withdrawn from the league.

Elsewhere, word on the street is that Giants beat Breakaways B 4-1, Geoff Ogier the only winner for Breakaways who had the breaks on Fontaine table.
Baulkliners v Fontaine postponed.

Only the second week of the season and already a top of the table clash. Layabouts host the Giants who will have the opening breaks. Both teams managed 4-1 wins last week.
Hopefuly Fontaine and Baulkliners will get their first points tommorow evening also.

Well, it looks like I spoke to soon when I said The Layabouts team were joint top. Sadly, the news tonight is that Breakaways A have withdrawn from the league. That means that Ian Champion, Gary Naftel and Paul Le Gallez can not find an extra two players regularly to make up the team in a venue with lots of male football players (Rangers Club). How sad. So last weeks game is void, so we went into tonight's match against clear league leaders The Giants, pointless. The result tonight was Layabouts 2 Giants 3, Scores on the doors below. Norman Wilkinson 3,490 Luke Oliver 5,780 A canny match with Luke having just two breaks and myself one. Luke made an early mistake after 1,700 and let me on - happy days ! But my 3,490 reply was not enough as Luke managed to regain his composure to calmly play the table out, not letting me back on. Bob Chapple 11,450 Terry Kenny 1,540 The two former teammates met in a friendly grudge match, which neither seemed keen to win, following a run of uncharacteristic mistakes by both players. It was Bob who settled back to his normal game first, scoring 10,600 break, despite a couple of scares when got out of position with the split and was relieved to just touch off the side cushion with a ball in front of the 100 pocket. Terry Girard 2,010 Jon van Katwyk 4,430 Jon playing his usual combination of extraordinary and unconventional trick shots, which included a very rarely seen 3 balls down the same 30 pocket in quick succession, Terry had no answer to such trickery. Paul Dyer 7,270 Bob Le Moignan 630 Didi did what he had to after a slow start and this made it 2-2 with the decider to come. Mat Ogier 3,610 Tom Oliver 4,670 Mat was looking good for the win, but said after the game he should have stayed on the table for a few more minutes when he got the break back. The Time Lord took control to see off his nephew and seal the win for the away team.

I have been asked to put these scores and Mini-Report on by Andrew Rundle. Baulkliners began their defence of the title with a narrow 3-2 home win against Breakaways
Andrew Rundle 4,210 Matt Wilcox 5,220 Trevor Gallienne 6,770 Geoff Ogier 4,660 Rodney Smith 7,450 Darren Ogier 400 Barry Osborne 3,120 Roy Le Page 4,990 Pete Sanders 11,760 D.Nicolle 150
Andrew Rundle was beaten by an ever improving Matt Wilcox, who will claim a few more scalps if he keeps this form up.
Geoff Ogier opened up with a decent over 4K break, but Trevor stayed on the table when he got the break back long enough to put the game out of the reach of his opponent.
Darren gave the break back to his opponent in the opening minute, and could only watch in awe as the old timer settled down to an easy win.
Roy Le Page restored some pride for the away team, beating Barry who is always a tough opponent.
New Breakaways player Dave Nicolle was mis-matched against Pistol Pete Sanders, whose 11,760 points total was the highest of the evening.

You might have to play him tonight so don't give him too much encouragement. Breakaways host Layabouts at Rangers Club. The other fixture promises to be a lively affair with Fontaine finally getting their season underway versus the other home team Giants. I wonder if there are any new signings for the Fontaine

28th October - Guernsey League matches will be as follows; Defending champions Baulkliners face league leaders Giants who will have the breaks on the lightning quick West Legion table. Six of the players are due to play in Jersey at the World Championships, so this will be a good indicator of current form for the Tipsters. Fontaine will host Layabouts. An interesting match in prospect, which will see Bob Chapple return to face the team he was with last season. With Ian Champion now signed to play for Fontaine it promises to be an entertaining evening
