I will be giving this a miss this year for the first time. It used to be a good change from 3pin until those boring break players mastered the break shot!! Milko

If tommo can master it i'm sure others can From what I saw last year Colin YOU certainly mastered it but entering to beat you I've not noticed that I'm the one everyone wants to beat Chris, its a new feeling for me and has its pros and cons, certainly don't mind if others don't fancy it, but as you rightly say its much better to have a close game and win. Still fancy Nige to win the main comp, who I understand is close to mastering the 50/50 both ways and of course Curt and Phil who will be very tough to beat, I think there may be a 10k score soon, which will be fantastic for the 4pin version bring the game on to a new level of skill which can only be good. A good outside bet will be Colin Norlage a local superstar in the making

I'm with Milko on this....to get 10k would be sooooooo boring for all except the perpetrator.
Just imagine it ! The local guys say our game (3-Pin) is boring enough when just four of the nine holes are used: 10k at four-pin would involve just the two 50 holes throughout.
All the time we use AEBBA tables for 4-Pin the results obtained are going to be artificial. I'd like to see traditional ancient old narrow tables like they've got in Wellingborough used: I'd defy anyone to get two in off the 50 holes on those !

Well if they can't get enough narrow tables then at least go back to using mushroom pegs!!

Milko I am hatching a plan to stop the big breaks, its called the egg shaped red ball. It would be great to play on narrow tables, the 150 break shot is a lot harder, but despite what people seem to think, we only have one narrow table in the Sudbury league.. I've made numerous enquiries about hiring in narrow tables for the EA open, but there is just no company who are prepared to hire out 8 tables on a very short term basis

might come in handy for some of us what am i saying sorry about the swear word

I am hatching a plan to stop the big breaks, its called the egg shaped red ball. I advocate a simple renumbering of the hole values, 10-30-50-30-10 for the back of the table and the 50s become 20s.

Well Chris I violently disagree with this sentiment as it is against the whole essence of 4-Pin: I think there may be a 10k score soon, which will be fantastic for the 4pin version bring the game on to a new level of skill which can only be good. The most endearing feature of 4-Pin is that both players usually get plenty of chances to make their mark, unlike in 3-Pin where often one single mistake can cost you dear. Let's not with our intensity ruin the game for a League which has been running for forty years quite happily without outside influence. There would be no better boost for the game IMHO if the winner next month came from East Anglia.

The trouble is Tommo I think that's where the Suffolk 4 pinners go wrong, we don't take it too seriously and play for the love of the game rather than winning. We play on the AEBBA tables once a year while some 3 pinners are playing on them or identical tables regularly, so we don't get chance to practise, not that most of us would anyway. Sav has said he'll be delivering the tables on Friday so that does give us a couple of hours on the Friday night to have a knock about but we then have the problem that the tables are in a pub and the bar and drinking tends to take priority Our aim is just to make sure the EA Open is a fun day for everyone, that's why we adopted the group thingy to make sure everyone gets as many games as possible, we do of course use our day to raise money for Charity and on that note any donations of raffle prizes will be gratefully received just please this year no spray tans

I think we all play to win, Dave, but this constant "striving for perfection" from certain quarters I find a real turn-off.
I'll be there just for the craic, and part of the attraction (along with the chance of doing something a bit different and meeting some new-found friends again) is the journey there through some beautiful countryside.

Striving to play better is bad is it tommo think its time to review your prescription Nice to see some different opinions as ever, keep em commin, I do agree it would be great to see a local come good and I have previously tipped a chap to do it. whether it can be done without the 50/50 break sorted out I'm not so sure

You can keep practising to your heart's content, Gandalf AFAIAC. My days of going out and playing/practising five nights a week are long since gone....about 40 years hence I'd say. I'm pleased to say that I've discovered that there's a lot more to life.

Let's be honest until 3 pin players play on the correct. 4pin top you have no idea how good you Are so my suggestion is a group of the top players go to a 4pin pub with a 4pin table and see if you still find it easy
