Okay, the plan for this Summer is that it will come under the auspices of the Horsham League and become our summer competition. This means that we will be making an extra effort to canvas support. An open invitation for teams from Horsham/Billingshurst and the Mid Sussex area (within reason) for this competition now looking ahead to its third year. Please indicate your interest by copying and listing below......... 1. Windmill GG 2. Bull A 3. Bull B (willing to move to accommodate another team)4. YO Stout House5. Dun Horse A6. Railway (note to self: avoid 3rd Tuesday of each Month which is comedy night)

Thank you, Gandalf, have added your two established teams to the 'interested' list.
As hinted at the top of the thread, it might not be me running it from now on !
I have been a little disappointed at local interest apart from the usual suspects, especially as only 3 players are needed to form a team. We may have reached the stage where in order to try to raise the profile of the competition we have to charge an entry fee to be able to provide some worthwhile prizes; I'll also try and tap Rod up again for some sponsorship like he provided in the first year.
This doesn't alter the fact that, in whatever guise, we are the only league in the only county south of the Thames offering competitive 4-Pin play.

.....or Ros and two beaux ?
And always thought that this is tailor-made for newsthejuice !
All we ask is you use a home venue loosely within our district.
NB. If the tendency is to form 'super teams' rather than those just out to enjoy the craic, separate divisions will be formed to account for this.

Can you let me know Format of matches - 6 singles, 3 v 3 then same 3 v 3 again with breaks reversedBoundaries of where teams have to be from - Crawley; the official Horsham (rural) District and/or Mid Sussex District as defined on this page:www.mid-sussexbbl.co.uk/page3.htmlHow many weeks/matches - we had 10 last year but that would be the absolute limit...if more than 5 teams, a second division would be formed.Oh and night of play! 1st year we used Wednesdays, 2nd year we used Tuesdays to avoid clash with Billingshurst Jubilee Team KnockoutCheers Nige

Hi nige last year's final league positions so it was 5 teams and 8 weeks plus 1 week for postponement and 1 week for Horsham crawley v eastbourne interleague 2groups of 4 teams would be a good target then it's 6 weeks plus a winners play off winners playoff only if zoned, not if divisions are separated by relative strength. Interleague from now on will be Hastings v Horsham as only one Crawley team have ever been intereted.

if information is available to all, and maybe some canvassing at sudbury, i'm sure that maybe nige and even bobhall would consider playing, if venue availability becomes problem, bull b team happy to move further up to dunhorse i think it is, where we played interleague last season!

Your offer of a venue change noted with thanks. We have all sorts of options with venues, but could definitely do with more teams to keep it viable. However, canvassing will not start until after Sudbury in March, as everyone is still focussed on 3-Pin at the mo and 4-Pin is the last thing on our minds. tommo

Not sure if the news has filtered through to our Eastbourne friends yet, but the Dun Horse has now closed its doors, possibly for ever. Their 4-Pin trio do not feel disposed to play this summer, they have enough on their plate in searching out fresh accommodation for next season's winter league !
This once again puts the viability of the Crawley 4-Pin league in question and much will depend on whether or not I am able to land some sponsorship so that decent prizes may be offered. I will not know if I am successful until about a month hence.

It's not looking too good at the moment, Chris. As you know, we've lost the Dun Horse, and the potential newbies Railway had a go with some pegs I lent 'em and didn't get on that well. The Stout boys have an affinity with the Railway and only reversed an earlier decision to call it a day when they knew the Railway were in. So with such a lukewarm response from the local contingent I'm leaning towards putting things on hold for a year.

I am still interested in entering tommo.
I will see if I can get a team together and let you know.
What venues could we play from as I understand there are boundaries?

Hi Nige,
Although I put in for sponsorship (and am "bullish" about landing it) it has really reached the point where I am left with only one local team (Windmill Crawley) - plus the travelling hordes from East Sussex.
So really I think it would be better if Eastbourne could reinstate their 4-Pin League this year - after all, that is where 80% of the interest lies. This would give our lads some time to reflect on whether they miss the summer league or not.
If the sponsorship comes through (should know in a couple of weeks' time) then I might use the money for table hire and arrange an invitational one-dayer.

Hi All,
Looks like we will have a summer 4 pin league in Eastbourne if not in Crawley, we will set the local teams up with at least 1 driver so we can entertain teams from outside our normal area. So if Nigel, Robbo, Darren and Tommo want to play in our league based in brighton , mid sussex or Crawley we are ok with the travelling if you are.
So lets not be downhearted lets just be willing to have a go a put a team in

That's great news, as when all's said and done, the powerhouse for 4-pin in Sussex is centred round Eastbourne.
Hope you get a good response.

Don't really think so as Micky and Tony were already pushing it to the limit travelling 15 miles eastwards for a home game at Crawley. Eastbourne/Hastings and Crawley/Horsham are two extremes, what is really needed is some interest from Mid Sussex/Lewes to provide some middle ground.
