There's been a small amount of talk here about whether or not we should affiliate to the AEBBA, more as a goodwill gesture rather than with any kind of tournament-winning ambition. With this in mind, could it be worth considering holding a semi-friendly tournament up north to try and pique a bit more interest round here?

Hi, I'm sure we could arrange some type of friendly match from Northants.
If you give me some dates etc when you can get a team and we can see if we can sort something.
Cheers
Si.

Should it be Yorkshire as a whole or split in to north and south ??

I think while we still have only two leagues up here, it'd be best to stick with one county, it'd make organising our inter-league stuff easier too hopefully!

I don't remember what dates we gave to Sheffield, but it'd be great if you could come up at the same time for a tournament!

We've fixed on 18th July for Sheffield to visit York - would that date be convenient for Northants too? If so we could either set up a 3 region tournament or a straightforward Yorkshire v Northants county match. What do people think?

I think we should be ok for the 18th, how many per team you thinking and what type of format??
Looking forward to a great day.

So pleased that Northants are agreeing to once again "going on tour" - this time in the opposite direction to take on and encourage the new bar billiards county of Yorks. I have a lot of admiration for you guys as missionaries. To give Yorks a sampler of what they may expect, here is a report from our website on the "Kipling Challenge" of a few years back. You could do a lot worse than arrange your format on similar lines: docs.google.com/document/d/1FEfQh9Ngu8kMo39jiuR2li2QZq4TYUdOpqOAAb6ClRI/pub

This is great news this is going to be fun I feel it will be hard to do Yorkshire v north as numbers mean not many games per player bit eather way we do it going to be an exciting day

I think a three-team tournament would be better, as we'd probably be expecting a lot of York players to show up!

Three team tournament it is then. In the past we've played Sheffield v York matches as doubles games, which is our league format and also helps to make sure everyone gets a fair crack of the whip when there's a lot of people out.
On the assumption that we should be able to visit at least 6 of our venues over the day, we could have 3 frames per pub, so that each team plays the other once in every pub (Northants v Sheff, Sheff v York, York v Northants), adding up to 18 frames in total. How does that sound? There's a slight danger it could wind up tied on 6 games each, but that's a bit of a long shot.
I expect York will be able to get at least 10/15 players down over the course of the day. If Sheffield and Northants can bring as many as poss then we can just play it by ear on numbers as long as everyone gets to play at least one game and no-one plays more than - say - 4 frames in total (meaning that each team would need to have at least 6 players if my sums are right).
How does that sound?

Sounds good with the fully having 3 tables could we not add more games here to make sure people get games we could get 9 games in there in the same time as 3 in another venue of yours all I am thinking is people playing games with the guys making the trip from northants for just 1 frame in a day

Yeah, good point - we could definitely do that at the Fully. That would boost up the number of frames to 24, which should definitely mean everyone gets to play a fair number of games. We also need to check how late you folks are able to stay until in the evening. I guess Northants will drive up? (I checked the trains and they take bloody ages!) I worried that I was maybe being a bit ambitious trying to fit in 6 venues if people have to get home the same night. We can always reduce the number of venues if necessary. I reckon the schedule I suggested would take us between about 1pm to 9.30pm.

That's great, I have had lots of feedback and a squad ready to go.
We look forward to seeing the format, as we are traveling quite a distance the more games the better.
Really looking forward to a great day and to meet new Billiard Counties.
