Afternoon everyone,
About a year ago I dabbled with setting up a YouTube channel. Like many ideas I’ve had in my life it proved to be a LOT harder than I thought it would be. I learnt a great deal in the process, and it’s something I’m going to look to do again, only this time learning from the numerous mistakes I made the first time around.
Getting people to view your content is by far the toughest thing. I read at the start of the adventure that most people who run a successful YouTube channel spend about 90% of their time trying to get traffic to it, and only 10% of the time in the actual creative and “fun” process of making content. Naturally I thought I knew better at the time, but I now know that to be about right given my experiences….. The popular misconception is that if you make a good video it will get tons of views and go viral. Trust me when I say nothing could be further from the truth……
One thing I was very reluctant to do (hence didn’t) was tell anyone I know about what I was doing, so for example I didn’t post anything on facebook knowing my friends would watch some videos out of “interest” and falsely inflate the view count.
However, given I’m going to be setting up a new channel (once I’ve moved house, a 2 year process now but nearly there) I am generally interested to see the “effect” of using a forum like this and people I know to see how it effects the traffic driven to a single video. Hence this post…..
In effect, I’m going to be shameless here are link a video, and ask that everyone reading go and watch it…. Press the little like button under the video (or the dislike button if you don’t like it…. Really I won’t mind), and if your feel like it, post a link to it on your facebook page etc asking your friends to take a look. That would truly mean a lot to me, and I can use my google analytical thing to see the effect it has. It would be a great learning curve for me for the future, plus (hence the reason why I’m posting this in this forum) I think you will find it funny. Its’ designed to be funny…. I hope it’s funny!
The inspiration for this video came from how difficult it is to get people to see your videos! It was written and recorded entirely by me over the course of a single weekend. Please check it out, and if you like it, it would mean a great deal to me if you linked to it on your facebook or twitter or something. Of course also feel free to watch one of the other videos on my channel if you’re so inclined, but at the very least please check this specific one out.
Thanks everyone, here is the link (and I promise you, it’s not a rickroll or anything like that).
Thanks in advance.
