This week saw the quarter-finals of the Rix Cup knock out competition of the Hastings Bar Billiards League with special performances and highlights in several games.
Colin Southouse as the Nags Head B team skipper got his team away with a win in their match against Old King John. James Bown followed with another win for Nags after trailing for most of his game. Mark Bailey secured a lastball tie in his clash with Alec Pope to give OKJ a whiff of a chance. Garry Tomlin then stepped up with a decisive victory for OKJ and after a very slow start Nigel Doe scored a last ball win by 20 points for OKJ that meant the match was tied 2.5-2.5. Calculators revealed a 130 point win for OKJ on countback.
Prince of Wales also had a tied leg in their match against Jenny Lind B. The participants were Linda Challis for Jenny B and Ann Kelly for PoW. However Ann hit the target in her other game and another strong showing from Pete Crabtree with two wins saw Prince home with KC Challis recording for Jenny B to give the 3.5 -1.5 result in Prince's favour.
Royal Albert went through against Nags Head A, led by another amazing personal best from Mike Daw. On a night of low scoring Mike showed the way with 14740 and was supported by wins from Nick Speight and Denis Cole. Steve McGill and Clive Minihane battled to keep Nags A in touch, but Albert managed a 3-2 win.
In the most straightforward result of the night Sandy Harmer recorded 8680 in his win for Ashburnham Arms against Jenny Lind A. He was backed up by father Roy, Dave White and Ron Young. Billy Skinner was the winner for Jenny A and kept the score to 4-1 for Ash.

Week end report from Andy Ellison
The final of the Rix Cup knock out competition of the Hastings Bar Billiards League saw a victory and cup and league double for Ashburnham Arms, leaving opponents Old King John as runners-up in all three tournaments that they won last year.
Mick Osborne got Ash away with good win in the opener against OKJ skipper Andy Eldridge but Chris Lamb levelled things for OKJ with the narrowest of victories over Roy Harmer. . However Dave White stepped up with a big opening break and a total of 5720 to defeat Andy Ellison and Ashburnham captain Sandy Harmer had the honour of the key victory as he dominated the latter stages of his clash with Nigel Doe. Ron Young confirmed the 4-1 result in a close final game against Garry Tomlin.
The Bar Billiards League and both competing teams would like to thank Jenny Lind hosts Linda and KC Challis for their hospitality in staging the final, especially the excellent buffet.
The League will hold it's one-day Open Tournament on Sunday 19 June and the Finals and Presentation Night on Wednesday 22 June, both at Jenny Lind.
