Horsham Finals Night will take place on Tuesday 24th May at Roffey Sports and Social Club. Can players in the 7.45pm matches please arrive by 7.30pm so that we can get off to a prompt start and try not to keep everybody out too late. There will be a small entry fee on the door but food will be provided and we have some cracking looking finals this year in which a winner is difficult to call. Must start this report with a massive list of thanks to all the people who made the evening possible and enjoyable: • Graham Sparksman for spending many, many hours setting up four tables. His hard work is reflected in some good scores across all the tables. • Ian Giffen for his helping in running the evening and with all the hard work done of many weeks to organise all of the trophies and give-aways. • Ricky and Dick Dewdney for producing the programmes. • Steve King for running the door and looking after the money. • Ros Appleby for arriving early to help with the trophies. • The Stout House, The Plough, Roffey CC Team and Steve Hopkins for sponsoring the tables. • Mrs Miller for providing the food and to John Miller for financing. • Jean Brackenridge for turning up to provide the Sussex trophies and staying to make all of the presentations. • Clive Thompson for being the MC during the presentations. • Margo Thompson and Ding Johnson for selling the raffle tickets (and taking over £100) and to Rob Jones for being the caller. • To everyone who provided the raffle prizes. • To the Roffey Club and staff for the venue and the serving of may drinks. • To all the players for were involved in the Final for being ready on time to play their matches. • To all who came along to support their teammates, fellow players and league. Massive apologies to anyone I have missed. REPORT:MEN’S SINGLES: Australia’s Number One came out on top in the battle of the Stout House BB players taking the first against the break before putting together two good breaks in the second game of 5.5k and 6k to take the trophy Down Under. LADIES’ SINGLES: A very close match with all still to play for until the last minute. In a repeat from Sunday Ros won the first but Lorraine fought back in style to take the second. This time there was a third game rather than aggregate score and Lorraine got the balls back at the right time to get the win. DOUBLES: Didn’t get to see much of this match but have been reliably told by Twiggy that Noggsy won the Doubles. Dave & Steve couldn’t get going in their attempt to do the Horsham-Billingshurst double while Keith put together some good breaks. SENIOR SINGLES: Spurred on by his defeat to Gareth, Jim took no mercy on Derek. Watched on by a small blue fox, Foxy run the table out in the first and then played out the rest of the time in the second after Derek had made a good opening break of 5.8k. LOWER DIVISION SINGLES: A very scrappy first game with neither player settling on the table and regularly missing the break. With numerous chances Stuart built a 2k lead; Sammy got the break back with time to chase but broke down a few hundred short. The second was more straightforward with Stuart starting with 3k and getting the break back to add a further 8.5k break to the bar. MIXED DOUBLES: Again didn’t see much of this so can’t give many details but Paul and Ros ran out 2-0 winners. MASTERS: Jim put a one-up behind early in the first leg allowing Gareth to build a decent lead at the half-way stage with a 10k break. On his break game Gareth quickly settled into a rhythm, was motoring along and making it look very easy on the new speed cloth; he did however need to pot the last ball into the 100 for the 20k but to his great relief it dropped straight down. TEAM CUP: Order was changed slightly to allow Ros to play first and free her for the Ladies’ Singles, and she played superbly to get the better of Dick Dewdney. Adam Kuzimski got the BB’s back level and Ricky Dewdney got a good 8k break to move them ahead. Super sub Vernon Sparkes sealed the win before not so super sub Mick Clack (sorry Clacky!) lost narrowly to captain Paul Jobbins in the last. TEAM PLATE: The Bull were on form in the Final taking all five games against The Plough. Lorraine Hall and Pete Edwards put them two up before Derek Taylor sealed the win getting nearly 8k against Brian Martin. Andy Farmer-Wright won a close game against Dave Vizor before Rob Hall put the icing on the cake with a 9k score in the last. RESULTS:

A tremendous report there from Stuart, and the list of thank-yous matches mine given out last night, so I don't think we've forgotten anyone - apart from yourself for jointly sponsoring Table 3 with Hoppo. The raffle incidentally raised £150 plus. It was my privilege to be the scorer for Gareth's epic break of 20,020 on the "dreaded" table DC20. The little blue fox mascot obviously wasn't galvanised while that was going on, but had recovered its powers for the backlash in the Seniors when its alter ego made a 17,760 play-out. I can now start working on a report for the website, and meanwhile here's a pic of our new Mens Singles Champion and Player of the Year:

And its Roffey H for the win! All four players in the semis, how long since that happened. And a guaranteed new name on the trophy. What was that about a new name on the trophy ? I don't think so........

There's always next year, Sam, although I think Hoppo would like another crack at it after four failed attempts.

That's a great report Tommo. Everyone else has provided the material (scores, reports and photos) - I've just cobbled it all together. No apathy seems to exist in our League, which I think is a wonderful situation.
