Singles Groups 25 - 36 are currently underway, the other groups having concluded. Results are now on the JBBL website for Groups 1 - 12, with Matt Jones, Steve Mariner and Jim Millward blazing a trail........
Mark James, Phil Osborne, Chris Saville, Barry Holt and Craig Carlson ease through in groups 1,2,3,4 and 5 with maximum points; Group 6 was amazingly tight, with Luke Oliver winning from Dave Lomax, both on 6pts and Colin Robbins and Darren Ogier consigned to the Plate. Luke's dad Tom won Group 7 from K.T.; Matt Jones scored an aggregate 30k to win Group 8, likewise Steve Mariner 27k to win Group 9; Surrey's David Jones continued his form from yesterday's Doubles by winning Group 10 from Ian Lelliott; Jim Millward aggregates 32k to take Group 11 from Alan Brackenridge; and Matt 'Silent' Knight takes Group 12 from Horsham's man-in-form Stu Carruthers.

Pairs Quarter-finals are now under way, so let's have a look at yesterday's highlights:
Round One: top performers were Curt Driver and Mark Trafford, who beat Andy Burns and Brian Dawkins by 22490 - 800 Curt's Kent stablemates Gerry Fitzjohn and Mark Brewster were next highest scorers, with 16650 against Geoff Powell and Pete Soanes. Game of the round was the narrow victory by James Jeanne and James Pallot, by 13000 - 11870 over Colin Smith and Stuart Carruthers.
Round Two: all else eclipsed by the amazing performance of the Bucks pairing of Matthew Jones and Cliff Slade: the second leg playout of 21440 and aggregate of 37340 must surely both be records for the Championships. This round also saw many Jersey players' hopes evaporate, although Ian Champion & Bob Chapple, Paul Le Gallez, Trevor Gallienne and Tom and Luke Oliver won through for Guernsey.
Round Three: Only Trevor (reigning champion with Sussex's Jim Millward) now left for the Channel Islands as Graham Bisson (partnering Jack Baden) bombs out with the others. Two husband and wife teams, David and Caroline Jones and Alan and Jean Brackenridge, feature in the Quarter-final line-up.

Singles Groups 13 - 24 results have now been advised. Nothing earth-shattering in the way of shocks, and another three trailblazers in the personae of Trevor Gallienne (26k), Mark Brewster (23k) and Paul Sainsbury (31k). In Group 13. Gerry Fitzjohn tied on 6pts with Paul Dyer but Gerry's 20k aggregate decided it. Brighton's D J Robins won through in Group 14 on maximum points, as did organiser Sean Le Beuvant in Group 15. Group 16 finished as a 3-way tie with Richard Wooton placed top and Oxon's Andy Skinner second; Simon Kimber of West-Sussex was the unlucky third. Group 17 went to Jersey's evergreen Graham Bisson on a tie from Worthing's Chris Oakley. The remaining groups in this phase, 18 to 24 were all won on 9pts by, respectively, Dave Ingram, Colin Southouse, Geoff Powell, Trevor Gallienne, Jim Greensted, Mark Brewster and reigning World Champ Paul Sainsbury.

We now have a full set of Singles results for the Group Stage, with 25 - 36 advised on the JBBL website: This time there were four trailblazers in the form of Bob Chapple (20k), Stuart Mepham (22k), Nigel Senior (25k) and Mark Trafford (26k) - but there were also some shocks....... Graeme Le Monnier, World Champion in 2005, is out, as is fellow Jerseyman Keith Vibert who normally has a good run in the event; And high-scoring mainlanders Kevin Hall, Martin Smith, Mick Fairs and Geoff Jukes have also been consigned to the Plate. Through on the maximum 9pts from Groups 25,26,27,28,30,32,33,35 and 36 are Roger Taylor, Bob Chapple, Curt Driver, Chris Tupper, James Jeanne, Stuart Mepham, Nigel Senior, Mark Trafford and Gary Ridley. Group 29 was close, with Nigel Bisson getting top spot from Geoff Pitt on scores; likewise in Group 31 with Guernsey's joker Terry Kenny getting the decision from Worthing's ex-Somerset patriot Peter O'Brien; and in Group 34 Berkshire's Andy Burns took it on scores from Jersey's Dave Gallichan. Which leaves group 30 where Bob Hall goes into the hat despite only one win, having tied with Lewis Stratford and Marc Carcel but going through on scores. There now follows a special elimination round to reduce the second-placed qualifiers from 36 down to 28.

The Last 64 is underway in three stages and we know the results of the 10.45/11.05 session. Three former World Champions are already out, including the reigning one, as Paul Sainsbury loses to Chris Tupper. K.T. puts out Trevor Gallienne by a 17k margin, and Dave Ingram falls to Steve Mariner, by a 12k margin.
Two more Channel Islanders are out, Nigel Bisson losing to Richard Wooton, and Tom Oliver to Mark James. But two are through, Guernsey's Ian Champion beats Dave Constable and Jersey's James Jeanne beats Gary Ridley.
Trevor Fitzwilliam could possibly seen as a surprise victor, 10490-1880 over Stuart Mepham, whilst Peter O'Brien shrugs off ten years' exile in Somerset to beat Sue Mariner.
Mark Brewster wins a close one against Geoff Pitt, whilst Chris Saville and Jim Millward face each other in the next round after beating Colin Southouse and Roger Taylor respectively.

The second phase of games in the last 64 round of the World Championship singles saw a 50% split of winners between Channel Islanders and the mainland players: Jersey's Dave Lomax beat Oxon's Geoff Powell, Graham Bisson beat Kent's Mike Callanan, and Mick Eouzan beat Surrey's Tony Cross. Whilst Guernsey's Terry Kenny beat Berkshire's Andy Burns and Bob Chapple in beating Myra Hawkins set up a last-32 clash with fellow-islander Luke Oliver who caused a shock by eliminating Ian Lelliott.
Surrey's Gary Powell struck back for the mainland by beating Jersey's Fred Jeanne, whilst Berkshire's Brian Dawkins edged out strong Brighton player Colin Smith and Kent's Craig Carlson beat the aspiring Matthew 'Silent' Knight. Horsham duo Stuart Carruthers and Jim Greensted fell to Nigel Senior and Phil Osborne respectively. To complete this phase, Bucks' mighty Matt Jones beat solid Worthing player Paul Barnett.

Results of the third and final phase of last 64 games have been announced, and it was favourable for Guernsey but not so for Jersey........ Bob Hall, after scraping through a qualifying group in which he lost 2 out of 3, put out the organiser Sean Le Beuvant, whilst the tables operator Nigel Ryall lost narrowly to Gareth Lloyd.
In contrast Guernseymen Ben Wilding, Mat Ogier and Paul 'Diddy' Dyer accounted for three Sussex men Chris Oakley, Barry Holt and D J Robins.
The lineup is completed by Oxon's Mark Trafford (who beat Kent's Gerry Fitzjohn), Surrey's David Jones (who beat Sussex's John Miller) and Kent's Curt Driver (who beat Sussex's Joe Oakley).
Last 32 sessions are played at 3pm//3.20pm and 3.40pm//4pm.

The top half of the Last 32 stage is resolved, and it saw the departure of two more former World Champions: The mighty Kevin Tunstall goes out to Mark Brewster by 7190 - 14580, whilst Chris Saville accounts for Jim Millward by 12880 - 9910. Jerseymen James Jeanne and Graham Bisson are both safely through, bringing to an end the brave runs of Trevor Fitzwilliam and Brian Dawkins. But Dave Lomax falls to Nigel Senior who is in irresistible form (3670 - 24720). Guernsey's Ian Champion beats Peter O'Brien, and there are six more Guernseymen in the bottom half of the draw. The remaining two clashes in this half were all-Sussex affairs, with Mark James beating Chris Tupper by 8380 - 6920 and Steve Mariner too good for Richard Wooton (15000 - 10890)

Just when it was all getting so exciting, coverage stopped. How frustrating ! I know that Sean was having trouble with a weak WiFi signal, so not intentional. Perhaps someone on the spot can complete the picture for us.

Another fantastic weekend and what a great weekend Matt Jones had was consistent and his play was exemplary all weekend a well deserved winner, not to forget the runner up Mark Brewster who also had a fantastic singles campaign, and was on target to catch a very stern target set by Matt.
A high class doubles competition, won by top class players.
Good to see so many Islanders through to the latter stages of the singles.
As usual well run by the men at the table, tables very fair, and a great social occasion.
Already planning next year, and will be ready to book once dates known.

A great weekend and thanks to the entire Jersey crew for putting in so much effort. Hopefully their contingency planning will be better next year so that Sean will have some butter when requested Flattered to have made the quarter finals for the third consecutive year, the only player to have done so, but let myself down with a poor qtr final to the ever-green Graham Bisson, losing on the last shot!
