With the end of Cameron cronyism, hopefully we'll see some awards that are more worthy this time. But who do you reckon will be made a knight or dame in the New Years Honours List ?
Tommo's nominations would be: (from sport, none from football, all our best ones are foreigners !) Sir Geoffrey Boycott Sir Andrew Murray Sir Mohammed Farah Sir Jason Kenny and Dame Laura Trott Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill
from showbiz: Dame June Whitfield (her career spans 60 years, I used to listen to her on the radio as a child) Sir Brian Blessed (he's climbed mountains for goodness sake) Sir Rowan Atkinson (well Baldrick got one, why not Blackadder as well ?)
Who would you honour ?

Who would you honour ? When I was little and first at school many years ago , over 50 years ago , it was a church school . We were taught to ' Honour your Father and your Mother ' . In fact it was one of the things written around the school room in 6" tiles , one letter to a tile . along with the 9 other commandments !! I wonder if they are taught that now ?

Also I don't understand what you mean that all the best footballers these days are foreigners , we could honour ..........err ....... .........erm ...well theirs a........or what about thingumy .......maybe you got something there ?
I think Geoffrey Boycott blotted his copy book some years ago , with off the field actions ....But there is still Ted Dexter ,81 years , he was commonly known as Lord Ted ? Or maybe Sir Freddy Flintoff , well maybe not ! I got it , I got it.....yes football Sir Sam Araldyce for services as England manager . 100% no lose record ! Or Sir James Corden .....a League of His Own Sir Lewis Hamilton services to motor sport or servicing a showbiz person ! Agree Sir Andy Murray but what about Dame Judy Murray
Other showbiz nominees:- Again Sir James Corden............charity work and conquering America also for making me laugh a lot. Sir Francis Rossi ........before they all pop off ! Sir Ed Balls ........for doing nothing particularly well !
Otherwise I with your list .

Sir Geoffrey may yet prove to be a good bet, I think Theresa May is a fan. Lord Ted was my boyhood hero, I remember an Ashes test when Ted scored 174 and Barrington 256. But he has been a background figure, whereas you can't deny Sir Geoff's dedication to cricket, he has devoted his whole life to the game and is a household name. I demand that he be knighted with a stick of rhubarb !
Well there's many you could say that about. We've lost Emerson and Lake this year but I went to see Carl Palmer last year and he was really energetic and did a 20-minute drum solo ! If we're going to favour someone on that basis I'd say Roger Daltry, who doubles as a trout farmer, or Ian Anderson who besides still touring also regenerates forests in Scotland.
Ed Balls is now the nation's sweetheart after his stint on Strictly, and I just hope a general election is called before Corbyn is dumped in favour of Ed.

Sir Samuel Allardyce and Sir Roy Hodgson.
For services to total blunders.

Well, I called Andy, Mo and Jess correctly but maybe it was too early for more cycling knights.....gives 'em more golds to aim for. Sir Ray Davies is a worthy one from the pop world. Also Bryn Terfel from opera. Geoffrey gets a kick in the face, as Aggers constantly takes the rise out of him on Test Match Special. But Doddy ? For 50 years of telling the same jokes I s'pose. And when he got away with tax evasion in 1989 he even had the gall to introduce references to it into his act ! Happy New Year everybody.

Some amusing tweets following this year's announcements: Some real vitriol directed at Sir John Redwood, not only from left wingers but from Remainers too .....
Kane and Southgate OBEs: Well, Harry boy hasn't won anything with a team yet so must be for golden boot tap-ins and pens, whilst Gareth's would be for services to waistcoats. Sir Alastair Cook and Sir Michael Palin seem popular choices.
Looking back on past comments, Rowan Atkinson and Brian Blessed continue to be overlooked, I'd now add Martin Clunes and Charles Dance as being worthy. And from the world of music I reckon Roger Daltrey, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and Ian Anderson.
Sir Nigel Farage would have a nice ring to it, too.
RIP June Whitfield by the way, finally made a dame in 2017, but sadly now no longer with us.

Have to agree Clive that why current football players (and similar) who get millions of pounds for kicking a ball around should get this honour "for services to football" I cannot see, lifetime awards for service maybe!

Exactly ! Whilst Harry Kane might aspire to be the "New Jimmy Greaves" no recognition has been given to the original one for his own unquestionable contribution to football.

As it's Christmas, I'll let you get away with bad language Tommo - just this once....
