The Suffolk Bar Billiards Association are pleased to announce they will be running the first ever national 4 pin team knock out. We are inviting teams of four players to enter and on this occasion entries will be limited to eight teams. The tournament will take place on Saturday 30th September at the bay horse in sudbury suffolk. All games will be played on narrow tables The format will be a straight knock out with each match consisting of four single games and two doubles, if the scores are tied at three games all the winning team will be the one who have scored the highest overall total number of points in all their games from that match.
Games will be played as follows First round Match A team 1 v team 2 Match B team 3 v team 4 Match C team 5 v team 6 Match D team 7 v team 8
Second round Main comp Match E. Winner of match A v Winner of match B Match F. Winner of match C v winner of match D
Plate Match Ğ. Loser of match A v loser of match B Match H loser of match C v loser of match D
Final round Main comp final Winner of match E v winner of match F 3rd and 4th play off Loser of match E v loser of match F
Plate Final Winner of match Ğ v winner of match H 3rd and 4th play off Loser of match Ğ v loser of match H
Entry fee will be £20 per team, there will be no prize money but every player taking part will receive a small engraved momento and the winning teams of the main and plate finals a perpetual trophy
We would ask you to note that although this is a serious competition we want it to be played in the true Suffolk tradition of having a fun and an enjoyable day for everyone. There will be no losers, just teams that didn't do as well as others.
If anyone is interested in entering please send me a PM or leave your name and any comments below.

I should of added that this competition has nothing to do with the AEBBA and is being run solely by the Suffolk Bar Billiards Association and the rules of play will be the rules we use in our Specflue E A open
Teams can be made of any four players, they dont have to play for the same league team or indeed be from the same area or county.
Ideally we would like to try and get an equal split between players from Suffolk and non Suffolk players.
Suffolk will have no problems in entering four teams so I suggest we give you guys until the 13th of May to register any interest and entrants will be on a first come basis, if by the 13th of May we havent had interest from four teams of non Suffolk players then we should allow more of our local players the chance to enter.

Probably need to do a format which guarantees 4 games per person on the day to make the trip worthwhile for the travellers

Everybody will get three single and three doubles games.
This is just an experimental tournament this year, thus only 8 teams, if this goes well next year we will look at using more than four tables, this will mean a larger venue and a much longer day so we have tried to keep this year simple to see how things go

I am interested. Have a team of 3 from Worthing, and confident we can pick up a 4th person in the coming days/weeks.
(If any of the regular 4-pin supporters fancy joining up with me, Tony and Rick then let us know. How about you Tommo?)

Is that a deff yes Mal? As we already have 3 confirmed teams from non Suffolk players and we want an equal split between Suffolk and non Suffolk

This is the inaugural tournament. Now we know there is plenty of interest we will look to expand it next year using more tables and possibly playing it over a weekend although that would mean more expense for travelling players and I would be interested in hearing any comments you may have.
This year we indend to start play at 10-30 in the morning and finish around 7pm giving people the option of either travelling home or staying over night and buying me some drinks.
I really think four tables and 32 players in the bay horse is the maximum we could comfortably accommodate so we don't really have any options for expansion this year.

Thanks for the offer, Mal, but it really would be pushing my luck too much with 'er indoors. Sure you will be able to get a worthy Worthing-er quite easily : young Joe O. seems to be up for most events - or how about Dipper ? There's good twitching available at nearby Orford Ness.

I'd bid £2-50 for C S as he always buys me a beer so I'll still make a profit

So we have are four away teams then.
Worthing
Eastbourne
Hastings
Northants Im guessing the captains will be, Mal, Chris, Colin and Simon. To be honest it doesn't really matter, we just need a point of contact for each team.
So far from our lot only two teams have paid their entry fee,
The Bay Horse, team probably Jeremy Fry, Steve Hale, Jason Lawrence and Alasdair Carnegie, they have to be the favs as they all play on the bays narrow table.
The Lillie household. Brendan Hoare, Colin Norledge, Ross Lillie and Dave Lillie.
The aim will be to start around 10-30 so we can finish a sensible time (around 7pm) to allow those of you travelling home plenty of time.
As there will be 32 players I think it is unfair to expect the Bay to put on free food, but I've spoken to Kayla and she said they will supply breakfast rolls at a nominal cost and then depending on the weather light the BBQ up in the afternoon. I may ask her to do one portion of extra hot chilli for Chris Haynes as I know how much he loves his spicy food.

No worries Tommo. Thought you might be chomping at the bit since it is on narrow tables.
I am a bit confused about these transfer fees. Are you really only offering me a few quid to take these people off your hands? ;)
Is there a list of players who you have already signed Gandalf? I would like to offer the place to people who support the 4 pin open first, and only resort to 'dragging someone out' if no regular 4-pinner wants to play. There are some Kent and Oxford players who I wouldn't associate with Hastings/Eastbourne but if you have signed Sav then you may have signed others too.

Hi Mal We have invited Sav as we could arrange to pick him up on the way through and we would obviously prefer to keep him in our team but i'm sure we have a spare player somewhere if you need one, theres plenty of time though for you to find a 4th from your part of the world Hastings team Phil, Bob, Colin & Sav Eastbourne team Chris, Peter, Mick and Gareth Reserve Dave White
