Another great example of Suffolk hospitality!
Excellent day thanks to all the organisers. Well done the locals (Bay Horse team victorious) who certainly put all the visitors to shame! amazed at the hail of high scoring shots off the back cushion!
Look forward to March!

well done to everyone involved in this great competition yesterday! thanks to Chris and dave and do think the guy that supplied the two tables, the White Horse for theirs and the landlord for being more than hospitable and going beyond the call of duty!
We started with old Alfie and I playing well and we drew 3-3 with the bay horse only to lose by a measerly handful of points when all the totals were added up! we then played in the plate semi against the northampton lads (2-4) and we struggled with the table and alcohol in equal amounts I'd say! but Col and Pol got the nerves out the system and both played really well in the wooden spoon shoot out when we came up against Ashburnham who were just getting into their stride! (3-3) and agin duffed up the count back!
The lads really enjoyed it and luckily Col moved somewhat nearer the Sudbury way so for them it was a smooth job. I'm pretty sure they'll be up for it next year!
cheers
Taffy

Glad to read that it all went well and that the hosts were the rightful winners !
This deserves an entry in the Timeline of bar billiards which we have, dating back to 1972, so if someone can list the final places then I'll arrange that.
I reckon you could easily get another team taking part next year (Eastbourne ?) but wouldn't it be great to get some interest from Norwich as well ?

Great day and for us weekend.
Well hosted by the Bay Horse whose hospitality is second to none. Some great laughs, many different ways attempted on the break. Thanks to the organisers for their hard work and to my team mates for the support.
Well done to the winners of both the main and the plate, but the overall winner was the competition and atmosphere it was played in.

changes? not many Dave, a bit like a handful of corn, put one on and two drop off!
only with more tables but in such a small pub?
if tables 2 and 3 could be angled in someway is about all I saw...
we all played and all finished at the same time.
double the tables, double the teams and you still have one more round of games at the end, what were all 'finals' last night would all become the 'semi's' and would need one extra round (the finals). getting late....
for a pub tourmnament I'd say that was tops!

Only real detail so far has been provided by Taffy. Cheers, Taffy. So, who did Bay Horse beat in the Final ? And who won the Plate ? Oh, and who won the drinking ?

Eight teams four tables knock-out format main and plate works perfectly, especially with singles and pairs.
It's in a top rate local pub that supports your local league.
Local accommodation is very limited.
Changes?
More tables? you lose the pub and halls are less attractive especially as real ale is difficult to offer on a one-off occasion.
More teams? you'd need to go round-robin groups (additional time) unless you get sixteen and double the existing schedule.
Personally I'd go with the existing format next year and see if you end up with disappointed customers.
Saturday was one of the most enjoyable bar billiards days I have ever been to, even if I hardly won a leg (be better prepared next year!) Sav.

part of the attraction was that we all played all day for as long as anyone else did and therefore everyone was on hand for the presentations. maximum table time. at the end of the day I was there from 10am till 8pm and played 6 games. that's 6 games in 10 hours. only way forwards in the pub is in my mind to have more tables and have a way of getting them working all day. but even then I think your still looking at a 4th loop of matches and that's just too late. I agree with Sav, a great day out and it should ensure full grids next year. sorry biking background coming out of me! how about this: all day saturday, 8 local teams from Norwich, Newmarket and Sudbury etc to play and whoever the two finalists are, they come back Sunday and take on 6 national teams in an 8-team tourney? only the 6 teams can have a practice game at 9.30am Sunday while 'booking in' or after the Saturday tourney finished at around 8pm ensuring the landlord is a chappy! so the Bay Horse gets a two day tourney. how about somewhere in the south hosting a knock out the week before so they can come up to Sudbury? say play to a finish but the two finalists come up? maybe Norwich could do that themselves and Northampton. never mind that they aren't narrow tables. some ideas for you Dave. Still not a narrow table fan though Dave. I wish you would simply move the 'spot' forwards at the National 4-pin and some simple rule like 'no two shots the same can be taken'. dead simple. kills the 150 break. or consider delicate skittles and red on the D. red on the D is worth 110 to 150 so is it worth the extra risk. at the moment your white on the D means it is 70 v 150. but I finish by saying again that it was lovely tournament and we thoroughly enjoyed it-all of us!
