We'll see how it goes but I think it'll be 64, but we could reach that figure very soon

Hope you're right, but 4-Pinners are outnumbering 3-Pinners by 2:1 so far (last year it was 50:50). Maybe this could tempt some entries from Norwich ?

Taffy Do you think we will see any more entries from the Newmarket area? Hi Dave I dropped a text into both colin and 'Alfie' last week and the rest is up to them Dave. I can't get a clear answer from either of them. I do hope they enter but not sure.... regards Taffy

Cheers mate, you've done all you can, just the more four pinners in the four pin open the better, I think there is about ten more of our players who should be entering in the next couple of weeks

I believe someone said last year that nobody from 4-pin had ever made the quarter finals or was it the Semi's before? kinda puts off the locals if the first is true! but with the dawn of the narrow table you may hope it is now a good mix otherwise if it all slops the other way 'they willo (not) come'!
can't see that happening as good players are just bloody good players wherever you go.

A good point made, Taffy. For the 4-Pinners, a maximum 5 years experience in playing that level of competition (a national 'Open') has been pitted against - shall we say - seasoned competitors, some of whom are England Internationals and two in particular who have scored a combined tally of 24 million points in the course of playing on average 170 Opens with a combined 58 wins to their name. So any success from any 4-Pinners has been achieved "against the odds" and deserves the utmost respect. The records (accessible on the AEBBA website if you know where to look) show that Luke Cole-Watts is top achiever with one Semi-Final and one separate quarter-final to his name, whilst Steve Hale has been a quarter-finalist twice. Jason Lawrence, Kevin Tobin and Charlie Holden have each made it to one quarter-final, whilst Melvin Tilbury and Andy Hill have both been Plate winners. I echo your sentiment that playing this time exclusively on narrow tables will be challenging to 3-Pinners and hopefully make a difference, perhaps unearthing a new star from Eastern parts ! I can't help harking back to 1980 when what has now become established as the World Championships in Jersey started. For several years we from the mainland didn't get much of a look in despite having some great players: the reason being playing on different tables, and under slightly different rules. But eventually the top players rose to the challenge and were able to adapt. One thing's for certain, it's going to be interesting - and I'm willing to bet that luck could even play a huge part.

Having done the team-4s on narrow tables, I know that there will be enough subtle differences in the tables to make it an issue. people will have to adapt or die!

As all the places have been filled nice and early we plan to carry out the draw for this years Specflue EA four pin open on Tuesday 6th February at the white horse in Sudbury, anybody is welcome to come along to witness it. If I remember I will also try to put it on face book live.
See you all in March
Dave
