Hi everyone, Just to keep you all informed, we are having some problems with the open for next year. With the issues the AEBBA had with Didcot Con Club at the end of this year has had a knock-on effect with this open. I am working to find another venue and will update you as soon as i can - there just may be a rush to get entries in!

Right then, finally got things sorted! Please find attached the entry form for this years open. Obviously deadlines are quite tight, so if you can get your entries in quick it would be greatly appreciated. Please note the different venue! There is limited parking in the venue (Only about 12 cars) But there is a big carpark less than a minute walk down the road (Before you get to the venue, same side). This is unfortunately a pay carpark but i am hoping to be able to get hold of some parking permits - but this is not guaranteed. I know this is not ideal but we haven't really had much of a choice for this years open. The good news is that it is close to a few shops! If anyone has any queries or questions, please do not hesitate to give me a call.

Does the previous winner get free entry ?
If so I will put it towards a new large plate for the cup to be engraved as one side is full now.

It's worth noting that in the aforementioned car park, you're looking at paying £13.50.
This should of been made clear.

You could always turn it into a positive.......hold it on the Sunday (as no call on the venue now by Inter Area) and have your own comp on the Saturday to make full use of the table hire.

Thanks Chrissie.
With the Bucks entries above, that brings me up to 26 entries with only 10 days to go until the closing date.
If people are thinking of entering, can they say so on here as i am not going to run this event if numbers do not make it worthwhile. I will make a decision on Wednesday next week.
With all the negativity surrounding the venue/parking etc, very few local players have so far entered - 3 with me!
I had a chat with Dave Alder this morning regarding this open and if this does get cancelled, we have a date in April where i can move this to and will give me more time to find another venue.

Would be a shame to have to cancel the 1st Open of the new season, but with the lack of support especially locally it is understandable, they cannot run at a loss.
People work hard to do the running of such competitions and we should be grateful for it, but we did see a trend towards less people entering last season, so many reasons for this as previously discussed.
Good luck to Mark in getting it going ahead and if does get postponed until April I will if available be attending and hope more support it then.
Please do not lose heart Mark as we need people like yourself that have stepped up to the plate.

Mark, Tony Willis and I had a conversation recently and we thought of a suggestion. How would you feel about having a meeting involving yourself and all the Oxfordshire secretaries regarding open organisation? I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that your efforts are appreciated given the magnitude of the task. However, better planning was needed and it should have been incumbent on the local secretaries to give as much assistance as possible. It's worth noting of course that this year presents an extreme circumstance as a result of the issue with Didcot Con Club.

You messaged me once Mark after we spoke at the AGM to which I replied, clearly you must of missed the message? You weren't mad keen on having it at Berinsfield to begin with if you'll recall. If you're going to take a snotty attitude then you can forget my suggestion. Because I couldn't be less interested when people carry on like that.

Mark and Phil,
You're too good lads that both do a lot for the game and nobody wants to see you in a public fall out. I spoke to Mark last week and he has struggled to get things sorted this year and was disappointed with what he viewed as a significant amount of negative feedback. With this and starting a new job it's not an easy time. Would be good if the two of you could talk privately as the idea of all working together makes good sense. We alk snap at times and say things we later regret, best to put them aside if you can.
All the best to both of you
Phil

He has already spoken with other Oxfordshire secretaries as he spoke to you and I know he spoke with Pete Soanes and has even spoken to Tony, so for you to say that a meeting is needed with the secretaries I don't think it is! Had you as a secretary that was spoken with come back with a suggestion of a venue?? Clearly not otherwise there would of been a possibility of it being held at Berinsfield! At the end of the day in the short notice he had to get another venue finding one is the best he could of done!! And to have all this negative feedback is ridiculous (the problem with some people in Oxfordshire is they like to moan a lot!!) Ian

It's no good dropping a quote out of context. I suggested Berinsfield as a venue to Mark and he wasn't greatly interested. At the time I couldn't think of anywhere else off the top of my head. What am I supposed to think when at the AGM Mark wasn't keen on Berinsfield? I've already stated that finding a venue at short notice is a difficult task, I don't need you to remind me. I'm not moaning without reason, why shouldn't I be displeased at the idea of paying more to park than the fee for entry? Just because it was organised at short notice, it doesn't make a choice above scrutiny.

I suggested a meeting to ask Mark how secretaries can help in future. So we avoid a situation like this when we have falling outs on public forums and sh*t flinging.
