Although this is a Suffolk BBA tournament I would really like to hear your comments on the below.
Michelle Baden has contacted me, both herself and Nigel have been drawn in the first set of groups but now due to personal reasons and the joys of public transport, there is a very strong possibility that they wont be able to get to Sudbury in time for 10-30 start.
I have suggested to our committee that we find two Suffolk players who have been drawn in the second set of groups who are willing to swap places thus giving M & N an extra couple of hours to make their journey.
Ultimately it is the decision of our committee but I also need to know if any other entrants have any objections. Michelle is doing her best to try and sort things out, but to me it would be so wrong if the current holder couldn't be here and have the chance to defend his title and our open just wouldn't be the same without Michelle
Please leave your comments. Chris Cass is holding back on the printing of the programmes for a few days while we sort this issue out, also please note that this isn't an open invitation for people to choose which part of the draw they are in in future tournaments

Dave I see no problem and if it will help as I will already be in Suffolk happy to play early. Think this is the organisers discretion, and cannot imagine any objections.

Well, I was going to post similar to Tony, but having given it some more thought, I don't think you should be changing the actual draw of players within groups.
But agree as a one-off Michelle and Nigel should be accommodated, using the method of changing the timings of Group 7 and 8 (swap them round with, say, Groups 9 and 10 for example).
Then once both phases have been completed, the four Groups can return to their respective positions for the future rounds.

Agree with Tommo's comment on this, draw should not be changed after taking place, but the schedule can be.
There are six matches in each group stage which means you can gain a good hour by first playing the three matches that do not involve N & M. That can be done without major alterations.
If that is not enough then swap two groups between first and second halves but that needs more people to agree.

Easy solution: The Draw has been performed but no timings yet announced. So - instead of dividing the two halves horizontally, divide them vertically. 1st half: Groups 1,2,5,6,9,10,13,14 2nd half (including N & M) Groups 3,4,7,8,11,12,15,16. If you imagine them in four blocks of 16, NW, NE, SW and SE, you're effectively swapping SW with NE, maintaining the symmetry. Simples !

Just swap 7 and 8 with 9/10 or 15/16, whichever is due to play on the same table in order to maintain the status quo - all the group stages are stand-alones so it doesn't matter...it just means I'll be out of the Open earlier!! It DOES spoil the symmetry though.

Think maybe Michelle was trying to make a mountain out of a molehill she probably only wants to come so she can steal yet another lighter from me. Still now its all sorted Chris can get on with printing the programmes, so hopefully they will be in the post soon. Thank you for all your comments. Dave
