Hue and Cry watched an old british comedy the other night, the first of the Ealing comedies called 'Hue and cry'. there's a scene in a london pub where there's a fella playing bar billiards. not a lot to see. but you could see the pins.
Odette In the film 'Odette' the underground movement meet in a hotel in which there is a 4-pin bar billiard table with mushrooms and 5 holes for the cues along above the ball tray, it therefore is a pre-war Sams. it can be seen several times and in one scene a player is playing alone when in comes 'Oddette played by Anna Neagle. the front Mushroom is black, the rear red and the side are white. 54 minutes exactly. the film is currently available on BBC iPlayer.
the film is SET in France but it says that only outside scenes were filmed there so this will be British studio bit of furniture. further study might reveal where the hotel is (in England) that played the part of t'ze french 'otel'?
The Harder they Come In the 70s colour film, the harder they come, the singer of the original Jamaican Reggae tune also plays the lead in the film. Twice we see players chatting over a game. the first time we just see their body's and chatting, the second time the players and the top part of the table, finally one person disappears over the other side of the table and we see that they were plaing 4-pin with skittles on what must surely be a Sams.
To The Public Danger (1948) A black 'n white talkie about drinking and then going on to drive. very naughty old chap wot-wot!
4-pin
Guns at Batasi
I watched it years ago and still can't get the bawdy song they sang in the mess at the piano out of my head all these years later! 4-pin but set out very weirdly! "Victorios, Victorios"....that bloody song!!!!!
regards

Name the 60s London rock group, who used to relax at lunchtime, with a few games of bar bills, and a lot of pints.

Not sure if there is a related "TV" thread but the BBC TV series "Hustle" used to have a bar billiards table in Eddies bar (Series 1-4 before a revamp in series 5 where it was replaced with a pool table). Sadly I don't recall them ever playing a game, although they did occasionally play pool in the later series. See Hustle Series 4 Epsiode 5 at 18:53 for an example: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b007mmyd/hustle-series-4-episode-5
