Only 20 entries!
We really need more entries to make this competition viable.
The closing date for entries is Sunday
Please spread the word for this competition within your leagues
Unfortunately there is a chance this may have to be cancelled which is being discussed by the SCBBA committee
A decision on this will be made on Sunday

I think that is the plan, but if a convenient number is reached, say 24 I think Jean would close entries. Feel sure draw would be done on the day

Well done to Stuart Mepham on winning yesterday, beating Matt Knight in the final (Matt having put up a great effort to defend his title).
Another great day and well done to Jean and Nigel on the admin, all those who helped set up the table. Again the club an excellent venue.

Well done to Stuart Mepham on winning the Sussex Off the Spot beating the defending champion Matthew Knight in the final. Stuart becomes the fifth different name on the trophy. In the final Stu took a 13k lead after the first leg taking advantage of being able to get the balls back regularly when his opponent could not. There were a couple of disappointing breaks from Matt in reply and Stuart ran out a deserved winner. The two semi-finals were more competitive with Stu beating Stuart Carruthers in his semi-final. Stu C was flying along on 9k, which would have given him a healthy lead going to leg 2. Unfortunately he took out a peg. Stu M then took full advantage of the chance given in the second leg to secure the win. Stu C was rightly gutted but could take heart from being the form player of the day. In the other semi, Ian Lelliott took a near 11k lead after the first leg with an excellent opening break but Matthew fought back in the second with the highest break of the day 11,800 and hung on for the win.
In the plate competition Nigel Senior beat Alan Brackenridge in the final, avenging an early defeat by Big Al that effectively put Nigel out of the main competition.
Format used was 4 groups of 6 with top two going through to the main quarters and the next two to the plate quarters, this system always throws up some shocks and yesterday proved no different. Stu C will have all the details and stats of the day posted on the website soon.
Thanks to Nigel and Jean for the formats and running the day, also to the guys for the heavy lifting and setting up the tables on Friday night, I would like to record special thanks to Tony Jenner for all the matches he scored yesterday, followed closely by Rick Cunningham, I dread to think how much poorer we would be without their assistance. I know that all those who play enjoy the day and relish the opportunity to play on the All England tables raising their performance, with newcomers to the competition proving this. Great venue too! Just a shame we can't get a few more Sussex guys involved to increase the entry.

Congratulations to Stuart Mepham on being a deserved winner of the 2019 Sussex Off The Spot. Also well played to Matthew Knight you made a superb attempt to defend the title, including a great comeback victory in the semi-final. Massive thanks to Jean for running the admin and Nigel for doing the format. Also thanks to Matt for organising the players and scorers before each match and to everyone for playing, scoring and making it an enjoyable day. Full results have been added to the Sussex website scbba.co.uk/off-the-spot/off-the-spot-2019/
