Thanks to Steve Hopkins and the rest of the Horsham committee for running a great event at the Roffey Club yesterday. The day run to time and was well organised. Despite only being able to set-up the tables a couple of hours beforehand Graham Sparksman did his usual superb job of producing four good tables, despite one playing tougher than the others due to problems with the slate. It is also good to see many people there early to help move the tables and people staying to the end to help pack up. Scoring was also made easy with the help of all the players and a couple of people who were there to watch.
Somehow, despite being pushed close in every match, I was able to successfully defend the Horsham Masters. I beat Steve King in a close final, in which I built a lead of 11k from the first leg and watched in the second as Steve kept getting closer and closer to catching me; unfortunately for him he fell just short. Steve had played well all day and won his group ahead of Colin Southouse and beat Rob Hall in the semi-final. I was almost beaten by my teammate Malcolm Andre in my first group game, getting the break back in the last couple of minutes to snatch the win. And after topping the group tried my best to lose the semi-final against Graham Sparksman. After Graham won the first leg 220-190 (Graham missed a ball on 2k, then I pegged 13k) I made a couple of breaks in the second to seal the game, that was until with seconds to go a kick/mis-cue/white moved on a one-up caused the red ball to go straight up the table.... luckily it missed the black peg my millimeters.
Colin peaked slightly too late after finishing second in his group and produced two good performances, including a table play out in the first leg of his semi-final, to win the plate competition beating Dave Howlett in the final.
Again thanks to all for help in producing a great day.

A nice day at the Roffey SC, well done to all who helped out, seemed to be plenty of scorers and helpers about when needed, its nice to see additional non playing supporters as well, which means Horsham BB is on the right track even though there were plenty of drop outs
