It is with a very heavy heart that I have to tell you that John Burrows passed away this morning at 11.50am. Unfortunately the cancer was just too much for him 😪.
Rest in peace our dear friend - you are a Bar Billiard Legend xx

One of the all-time greats and a truly nice guy.
Looking back at my old version of the AEBBA site he was national champion three times plus a runner-up and a third place. John won the off-the-spot four times including a hat-trick plus a runner-up. He never won the AEBBA pairs but was runner-up twice with Chas Jones.
Sad news and my condolences to his friends and family.

Condolences to all his family, friends and the Wycombe league.

Sad news One of my greatest achievements was actually managing to beat John in the semi final of the AE off the spot, which he had won so many times. I remember John smashing in a 20k break on a dreadful table in an early Northants open. This was about 10k more than anyone else achieved on that table all day. I watched every shot, I don’t have the words to tell you how good it was. Then not content with thrashing us all at BB he came to some of the golf days and beat us up at that too! John was right up there with the very very best.
A talented man and true gentleman… R.I.P.

Sorry bit late to this one, sad to hear of John's passing.
Without doubt one of the true legends of the game, I missed him at his peak, but did see him at the tail end of his bar billiards playing days.
i played him once - in a All England Singles match. He walloped me.....he played the table out and made it look so easy. I managed to take the second leg with 3 breaks for around 5k total as he couldnt clear the table till near the end. I didnt think the table was as easy as he made it look! Ironically that leg was crucial - the points for that leg edged me into the final, and somehow John finished runner up to me in the group despite winning all his matches...I think he was robbed!
Later I saw him at a bar billiards golf day and he wasnt playing bar billiards any more but took the time out to ask I was playing - a true gent.
