Jim Wilson Bot CSSC v Ally 'La-deh-Da' Stansfield-Prewett = Home win (Ally's first 3-pin game) Andrew Knibbs Carp Arms v Alfie Noakes = Home win (Alfie had played 3-pin before once) Paul Tolkein WH Milton v Andy Pollard = Away win (Andy hadn't played 3-pin before) Malcolm Wright Bot CSSC v Taffy Lloyd = away win (malcolm lost 3,400 on the last ball. Taffy lost 970, still had a handy 1,650 though) Lee Mason (C) WH Milton v Paul Mason = Home win (a great 14,50 from Paul who only had his 10th game of any BB and his first of 3-pin) player X v Andy Pollard again = home win (extra player arrived, back in went our best player; Andy lost by 1,200 which was also the score of the break he lost...would have been tight otherwise....)
so 2-4 to the hosts. Played in a great atmosphere with both teams chatting 10 to the dozen all evening.
we join battle again next Monday evening at the Townhouse in Ely. First for us is 4-pin on narrow tables this Saturday and back to wides on Monday with the red and white swopped! we shall be giddy....

Great report Taffy. We go again tonight but this time at 4 Pin, with the 3 pinners 4-2 up heading into the last 6 games.
Was a good evening had by all last week with 6 games and then two Captains of 3 Pin Teams had a game afterwards of break back and I tucked up on 4040 off the break, lovely.
Our team tonight is: Lee Mason (C) WH Milton Andrew Knibbs Carp Arms Jim Wilson Bot CSSC Malcolm Wright Bot CSSC Paul Tolkein WH Milton Ian McManus Carp Arms

If I recall the return leg was played in wet conditions! I kid-you-flippin-not! The table was just inside the door and the landlord kept the front door open open all day. Entering the pub in my mae-wester and galoshes we put out a good team and were very hopeful that 4-2 could be equaled - but for the 4-pinners this time.
anyway, the cloth was damp and the game became a lottery. the game was again played in a friendly atmosphere and the final result was an honourable 3-3 draw. Ally and I got invited that friday to a private Bar Billiards/Beer/Pies party in someone's living room in Cherry Hinton (on the edge of Cambridge) and we talked of 'the greater game'. I think that most of the 3-pinners had never seen the 4-pin game played before and couldn't visualise the '70/110-shot' I'd recommended. Of course the object ball would go through a pin in 3-pin for that shot.
we never got to play Sudbury or wellingborough after this which was what i tried to organise. Nobody seemed to get it that we only had 6-7 players in total, the entire lot of us. So we were the ones that needed accomodating... and then Covid came...
