Andrew Knibbs (Carps) vs Jim Wilson (Bottisham) @ WH Milton 8:30 Lee Mason (Milton) vs BYE Alan Stanley (Swavesey A) vs BYE Alan Denney (Swavesey B) vs BYE
Well with only 5 Captains this is an interesting event which serves up just one fixture before the Semi Finals.
Andrew Knibbs has won this back to back for a number of years and is usually firm favourite. To be drawn against Jim in round one however puts Lee Mason (me) as favourite for the Comp. Following on from losing the singles final in April I've improved my game a lot and am unbeaten this season after 6 games.
The semi final draw will be interesting. I'm PREDICTING Andrew to beat Jim and then hopefully Lee and Andrew to meet in the final which would be set to be a cracking game. Prediction Winner- Lee Mason Runner Up- Andrew Knibbs
Over 50s Comp 2018/2019 Winner- Paul Tolkein Runner up Jerry Ladell
Draw 14th January Barry Turner (Milton) vs Andrew Dennis (Bottisham) @ WH Swavesey Jerry Ladell (WH Swavesey) vs Paul Tolkein (Milton) @ Bottisham Mike Orbell (Swavesey) vs Jim Wilson (Bottisham) Malcolm (Bottisham) vs BYE. I'm predicting a Semi final line up to include Barry, Paul, Jim and Malcolm
Prediction Winner- Barry Turner Runner up Malcolm Wright
Apart from the singles this is the most open competion with anyone of these players having a chance to make it to the final. It's a big call not predicting Reigning Singles Champion to make the Semi Finals but I fancy Barry to go on and win this.
Pairs 2018/19 Winners Ian McManus & Andrew Knibbs Runner Up Malcolm Wright and Jim Wilson
Draw 21st January Andrew Knibbs/Ian McManus (Carps) vs Malcolm Wright/Ian Dawson (Bot/Carp) @ WH Milton Byes: Lee Mason/Paul Tolkein WH Milton Jim Wilson/Andy Dennis Bottisham Jerry/Matt Ladell Swavesey
Prediction: Winner Andrew & Ian (Carps) Runner Up Lee Mason and Paul Tolkein (Milton)
Singles Competition 2018/19 Winner- Andrew Dennis Runner Up- Lee Mason
Draw Ian McManus (Carps) vs Andrew Dennis (Bottisham) @ WH Milton Andrew Knibbs (Carps) vs Malcolm Wright (Bottisham) @ WH Milton Jim Wilson (Bottisham) vs Paul Tolkein (Milton) @ Swavesey Lee Mason (Milton) vs BYE
Well the most open competion of all. Every entrant can not only make the final but all could win it if they play their best.
I'm expecting a Semi Final Line up of: Lee Mason Jim Wilson Ian McManus Malcolm Wright But really anyone could win their quarter final matches.
I think most players in the league would like to see Lee (me) vs Ian in the final as form wise we it would create a breath taking final. After losing last years final, I think it will require a bit step up to go one further. I expect Jim Wilson to have a better season in the Singles and Malcolm Wright also. Tough opener for the defending Champ as well.
Prediction Winner: Ian McManus Runner Up: Lee Mason
3 Years of Winning the Captains Cup for Andy Knibbs came to an end last night.
He slumped to a 2-0 Semi Final Defeat vs Alan Stanley. Andy was a massive favourite for this game and the title. Andy hit the black 3 times across two legs. Alan played well and will be eying up the trophy.
He will play the winner of tonight's 7pm game. Lee Mason vs Alan Denney @ Bottisham
Lee is now instilled as big favourite for the competion but it's a tricky tie vs Alan in the semi.
Mixed Doubles Semi Final: Lee Mason & Gemma Turner vs Alan Denney & Theresa Guyll. Touch match for the defending Champs L&G vs two league players and Gemma doesnt play in the league. However, a excellent break of 620 by Gemma at the end of the 1st leg was the real difference. With a 950 lead heading into leg 2. L&G took a lead and then filled the table. 1-1, aggregate score 3770 vs 3180
Over 50s Jerry conceded his game vs Paul in the quarter final after trying to rearrange for the 3rd time.
This meant Paul could play his semi final vs Jim, a repeat of their singles quarter final. A good break in game 2 gave Jim the win.
Meanwhile Malcolm Wright beat Andy Dennis in the other match.
