With this seasons competitions coming towards the final stages, it has been put to the committee for next season why not try instead of holding the competitions during the season why not hold weekend from Friday evening to Sunday and play all competitions over that one weekend. This works very well for West Sussex and is a fun weekend, they play all competitions on that weekend.
As suggested to the committee thought we would get the idea out there and see what peoples thoughts and reactions were, obviously this would be discussed at the AGM but thought we could gauge reactions on the forum.

Would prefer the format that way would mean being able to enter more comps as well

There are a lot of weekend comps so would have to fit in somewhere around interleague/opens etc West Sussex's does clash with Oxford Open, so if this was done in Worthing would hope it does not clash with anything. If it got extra numbers that would be a good thing but would only know that if it was tried out. Personally, I think it is more of a traditional thing for me. You have to play around the venues to get through the rounds and throughout the season, to try and make a final and play on finals night. I think it was a good move when Sussex put there main comps to one day many years ago, but not sure I would like to see all leagues to the same, plus I wouldn't like to see the best of 3 format die out as I would expect one day formats would be based on best of twos.

Personally I like it as it is. There’s enough weekends taken up with bar billiards and prefer having to go to different venues to play. It also gives landlords a bit of extra custom in these days when they need it.
As Nigel said it’s tradition and would hate to see this disappear from our game.

I accept nigels idea as well I wouldn’t want it to affect possible going to an open as I will be honest I would choose an open over a league one day comp as when a masters has been on same time as an open I choose the open and always will but it’s always good to throw new ideas into a hat
Like with Sussex playing captains and over 50’s on 1 day I think that was an excellent idea to do same with mixed doubles hopefully we can drum up some more entries

Exactly what we are looking for constructive comments, nothing to say because it becomes a weekend competition it cannot stay best of three, I personally for league comps like best of three, but with dwindling numbers interested to see if we would get more entries with the weekend idea.
Adding to the discussion why are people not entering the competitions??

I like the idea maybe we can do it same weekend as the masters and move the off the spot to the November date where the triples was as that seems not not be going anymore?

Adding to the discussion why are people not entering the competitions?? Out of interest Tony what have the numbers been like over say the last few years, it could just be the case as the league has got smaller that the entries have got smaller - it may not be that people have stopped entering just that there are less people eligible to enter now. if it stays best of 3 - bear in mind some games will finish in 2 legs some will go 4 legs so planning may be tricky. Dont get me wrong if it increases entry a weekend comp may be the way to go, and you may find it is the arranging and getting to venues putting people off entering as it is. However, for me I would vote to stay as it is as I do have belief that winning matches on league tables rather than competition tables all the way through (until the final) is what unique about winning a league singles or doubles as opposed to county/ national comps on match tables.

I think as Jean said you should consider the landlords income from comp being in pubs. we are losing too many venues.

Nigel the main competitions are holding their numbers over the last couple of seasons. The idea was put forward to see if we can get interest from others who do not normally enter.
A lot of the problem is caused by the drop in the numbers of teams and that means less registered players. Also I do think there is some who think not worth entering I cannot win it and if we do go to one day and use a two leg format think some will be put off. Not sure how we encourage those who no longer enter to do so.

Another thing to consider is people’s holidays, family events etc. When it’s as it is now people can arrange there matches around these. If it’s one day you could lose some of the people who always enter.
