CORONAVIRUS
The committee had a meeting last night and decided to keep the league going and play games as normal unless the government or any authorised body make it mandatory that we cannot continue. Obviously we are aware that individuals may have personal concerns and may feel they do not wish to play and the committee totally respect that. To help team captains with possible loss of players through isolation we are going to try and put an emergency 3 player rule in place and you will be notified of this very shortly. According to news sources it wont be long before pubs are shut and we might not be playing again for a long time. Let's hope this is not the case and we can all remain healthy and safe. If anybody has any questions or worries please do not hesitate to contact me or any Brighton committee member.

The committee need to re-think this decision,we all have a civic and moral duty to comply with government instructions based on the best medical advise. You risk spreading a nasty life threatening disease for the sake of what. Finish the leagues now, most leagues are sorted or suspend to the summer.I m sorry this affects pubs trade and income but surely one life is worth more.

Colin I appreciate your comments and they have been noted. There is an article going round from a health organisation saying completely the opposite to the government. I think there are mixed messages going out, so you must not go out at all but it’s ok to go to work on public transport and sit in an office all day. Don’t see how that is better than going out. I am sure the government will close everything soon but until then we as. As committee have taken this decision. You or anybody else are not obligated to play and obviously if lots of people decide this then the league will rethink. We spoke to several players last night including over 70’s and the majority wanted to carry on.

I would love to continue but as I am the carer for my 90yo mother I have to choose were and when I go out. I think I will have to bow out of playing until things change or become clearer.

Having spoken to my team New Oak B And with regret we will not be playing any future games this season unless the situation and advice changes
I have one player with underlying medical reasons and another that today has had to go in to self isolation. Others have family members with medical conditions which are life threatening as it is without the complications of possibly contracting Coronavirus.
I hope members of our community understand and respect our decision
As the league is carrying on I will contact captains of the teams we should be playing on a weekly basis

My Nan is 82 I live with her she and 30 people all over 75 are still carrying on with social events and they have underlying health issues so the advice was not pubs must close the reason they haven’t closed all pubs is so landlords can’t claim off insurance to help them through this difficult time

I think you will find if they do force closure most landlords would not be able to claim on insurance anyway unless they have had a specific clause written in to their policies. Which most don’t.

Just an update to all our members. After careful consideration and taking in comments from some of our members we have decided to reverse our original decision. The league will now be postponed until further notice and hopefully we can complete the league at a later date. Hope we all stay well and safe.

Good decision Jim, we have done the same in Worthing. I wouldn't be able to field a full side in Brighton whilst this continues

Unfortunately the decision to suspend the league makes perfect sense. Lets hope the situation improves in a few months and we all stay safe. Lets also hope pubs and clubs get some help over this period, or we might not have a league to come back to!
