All stems from the first job I had as a school-leaver. Worked in the Overseas Department of the Insce Company that is now More Than. We had branches and agencies abroad - mostly English speaking - and vetted the policies they had underwritten and helped them with the settling of claims. Our agency in Bujumbura (formerly Usumbura) was only French-speaking, unlike its neighbour Kinshasa (formerly Leopoldville) in the Belgian Congo. Part of my job was to act as a translator where required, and Burundi were always calling for advice. So I was heavily involved with French letters !
