Sav on winning his first local singles title on his first entry in 68 - 69 from an entry of sixty eight! oh for those times back, Attachments:

'Brains' was from the local rugby club and Thunderbirds obviously. I figured out a way to beat a "skill stop" feature on a brand of 'one-arm bandits', quite legally I might add as I had extremely quick reactions and good coordination.
Used to go out with about a dozen from the club on a Friday night and a couple would go to the bar and start ordering the round whilst the rest surrounded me as I milked a couple of jackpots out of the fruit machine. Round paid for, machine switched off by the landlord, on to the next pub!
Never found anyone with good enough reactions and coordination to fully manage my system. Eventually every single one of those fruit machines in the area disappeared one week.
I'll have to see if I can find my Guinness Book Of Records paper clip for equalling the record for scoffing a pint around the same time.

What a marvellous picture, Rose and Crown teams, so dated, piled hairstyles etc to 1971 (ish) Front from left Miriam Bruce, Janet Fairclough, Tabs Skinner, Sheila Hill, Olive Bruce (landlords wife), Moggy Woodcock. Middle from left Yours truly, Tony Bruce, John Fairclough. Back from left Mick Pitcher, Mike Callanan, Ken Woodcock, Alan Mercer. Several of whom are no longer with us sadly but we are fortunate to have these as memories
