Hello everyone, This note is to advise the Bar Billiards Community that the AGM 2020 will be held on Sunday 13th September at 2:30pm. With the cancellation of all remaining playing activity until the end of the AEBBA accounting year, it is possible to bring this meeting forward. This change will offer the additional benefit of having a clear direction following the AGM for the resumption of activities. The AGM Proposal form is available on the website by clicking here. The deadline for the receipt of Proposals is Sunday 16h August.Further details will be posted very soon. Best wishes, Lorin

May I take this opportunity to remind everyone of the AGM and its importance. The meeting date is set so please ensure any proposals for change are submitted before the deadline.
There will, as always, be committee elections where all roles will be eligible to be contested, some being vacated and will need to be filled, but all open for contest.
There are some very significant decisions to be taken about the immediate and medium term operational capacity of the association as well as how best to support the local game given the environment we find ourselves in.
It has never been more important that you participate in this event.
Regards,
Lorin

Is there anyone from the committee on here that can tell me if the AGM is going ahead or not, and if so where it will be?

Cheers Nigel,
I hosted the EGM virtual meeting (minutes from which have yet to appear??) and still hold a full Zoom licence, but have not been asked to host this one so am assuming other arrangements have been made.
It would be a good idea for AEBBA to have a trial run one evening as the EGM did not start very well.
I have yet to see any proposals or accounts (and required verification) circulated.

Thank you Nigel. What about the people who do not have or even know how to use Zoom? Last time it was a nightmare and I couldn't even join the meeting.
A trial seems like a good idea Chris.

Hi Dawn
Yeah it's going to be difficult for people without zoom. I have had trouble with it depending what computer I have been using. But when working it's pretty good.
Maybe if people are keen to be part of the AGM link up with someone in their bubble who has and join in on the meeting that way.
Hopefully it can be sorted that anyone who wishes to be part of the meeting can find some way of being part of it.

Hello all, I am happy to confirm that the meeting will proceed via a video call only. This difficult decision has been taken with the best interests and safety of members at its heart. The accounts will be circulated by Gerry ahead of the meeting. The AGM document will be posted on the website and here later today - there is only one proposal for consideration in addition to the accounts and committee elections so it may be a relatively brief meeting. That said, attention must be paid to the resumption of events and any activities required to support County Associations - so I'd imagine some extensive discussion around that. The details for the meeting are as follows: Topic: AEBBA A.G.M Time: Sep 13, 2020 02:00 PM London Join Zoom Meeting us02web.zoom.us/j/84117710200?pwd=ZWFaU1pydFoxdENpeXQ3c0o4Z2hWQT09Meeting ID: 841 1771 0200 Passcode: 330614 I suspect a test call would be worthwhile so I propose those who wish to test join in using the above credentials at 8:30pm on Wednesday evening. Best wishes, Lorin

I have just looked at the AGM report that Lorin has posted. The following two sentences made me feel sick.
Feedback regarding my personal lack of competence in the role, feedback regarding how changes are killing the game, and feedback implying dishonesty. It has been tough to hear that given my passion for the game.
The following is aimed at those few individuals that caused Lorin to write the above. And you know who you are.
You should all be very ashamed of yourselves. We have now lost the most forward thinking secretary this association has ever had. Your disrespectful attitude is one that is not needed or wanted in our small community. Quite frankly I am completely disgusted that Lorin has had to take this stick when all he wanted to do was steer the bar billiards ship to a brighter future.
And I bet none of these so called players will be prepared to raise their heads above the parapet and help to run the association. Of course not. But who does want to do the job of secretary and then be made to feel the same as Lorin ?

Would just like to add that Lorin is one of the LEAST dishonest people I have met. Have heard rumours of him putting his hand in his pocket to overcome a shortfall of some sort on more than one occasion.
It is a tragedy that he hasn't felt appreciated for his efforts in the post and thus feels disinclined to continue: He will be a difficult act to follow.
Big thanks Lorin, your achievements are many and haven't gone unnoticed. All the best for the future.

Couldn't agree more with Curt's comments above. For anyone to say that about Lorin is sickening. Everything he has done in the secretaries role has been to try and benefit the game. He will be sadly missed in this role.

Unfortunately the previous secretary, Dave Alder, was made to feel exactly the same by public criticism at the AGM two years ago causing his surprise resignation on the spot, I was at the meeting. Now we lose Dave as the hardest working man AEBBA has ever had altogether.
Anything unsubstantiated implying alleged dishonesty of Lorin on this this forum would have been removed immediately by staff and catalogued. There is no record of anything implying dishonesty on this forum.

It is hugely disappointing to see that Lorin feels forced to put down the reins. He has been hugely supportive to helping me develop bar billiards in Nottinghamshire, and I think its fair to say, no previous secretary has come close to helping develop the grassroots game as much as he has.
I would like to see a commitment from the new Secretary, whomever they may be, to continue to promote bar billiards at ALL levels, and not just make it a club for those at the top.
I hope my comments are taken in the spirit they are intended, and not as an attack on the top level players as has happened previously.

It was quickly typed on my phone, hence the need to clarify. The top level of the game is what we all aspire to, I wouldn't have to have the words runner-up in my signature if I was able to get 20,000 breaks! 😁

Thanks to Dawn and Chris for their support but I will withdraw.
Maybe one area Jean will address as Secretary is the one vote per league as I believe Sussex get about 10 votes that cannot be topped by the other counties so there is a disproprinate amount of votes per county in my personal view.

Disappointed to read this Chrissie, but understand your reasons. Regarding the A.G.M I was asked to verify the accounts earlier this week and that I have done with the Treasurer's help (thanks G.). My report is with the outgoing secretary. I have recommended the acceptance of the accounts. Please take this as the verifier's required report at the AGM. The report should be published with the accounts. My report only deals with the accuracy of the accounts and financial practices. As for trading, the year has been disastrous financially. Stripping out the several early transactions which were owing from out of period and allowing for the liabilities AEBBA have that were not paid by the end of period, plus the £240 owing from Hastings for over a year then AEBBA lost just over £3500 last year. That is despite the extensive sponsorship organised by Lorin for the AEBBA events. That is 25% or our disposable assets and a major hole in the reserves being built up to replace the van. Given the current uncertainties careful contingency budgeting must take place before all the bills start rolling in once again. Both Chrissie and I wish our names to be removed as signatories on the AEBBA account as we no longer hold office. We should not be on the account as we have no authority to action it and do not want the associated liabilities. We should have been removed when Chrissie resigned as Treasurer. So might I suggest that the A.G.M. nominates another committee member to replace us and the Treasurer action it ASAP.

You will also need to remove Phil Hawkins whom is still on the accounts.
This may apply to Dave Alder but that is up to him and should be discussed tomorrow.

Many congratulations to Jean on her election to the role of AEBBA Secretary, and to Nigel on his election to the role of Tournament Director.
I wish you both, and all of the committee, every good wish for the future.
