Hi All We are planning to run the 2021 open as normal. The hotel has been confirmed for the bank holiday weekend as normal. The new forms will be made available on the www.guernseybarbilliards.org.uk/ shortly. For those that entered the 2020 season and sent a chq, these will be destroyed. Those that have paid by bank transfer, I am happy to send the money back or hold over for 2021. Please confirm your preference to me directly and I will make the necessary arrangements. Oge

Hi Darren, Doesn't look like we'll be able to come next year. Clashes now with a Concert at the Palladium which has now been put off yet again, and may be our last chance to see them.

So, if you haven't already torn our cheque up, please bank it for Guernsey funds as I requested earlier. Thanks, tommo

Happy New Year to all in Guernsey.... and everywhere else in bar billiards land! 😁
I appreciate that it is still 4 months until the competition is due to be played but with flights, hotel etc to book it would be very helpful if someone could give an indication of whether it looks as if is likely to happen this year? 🤔
Do the current rules in Guernsey still require a quarantine period for people arriving from the UK? Obviously that would be a major problem if they do.... ☹
What restrictions are there on groups of people meeting, if any? 🤔
I remember that last year it took a while to get refunds from Aurigny and I think that was during a period of lock down. Does anyone know if Aurigny will provide refunds in the event of the competition not going ahead if people have booked knowing that there is a quarantine period or will Aurigny simply state that you are not entitled to a refund as the situation in Guernsey has not changed.... 🤔
I truly hope that the competition goes ahead and will be there if it does, but I'm reluctant to book anything at the current time when everything is so uncertain at the moment.
Any feedback from the organisers or others would be greatly appreciated.
Stay safe and well everybody. 🤗

Hi Dave
So I have asked Ben to get an answer as he is the secretary for the association. I assume they will be discussing this at their next meeting.
At the moment Guernsey does require anyone that enters the island goes into Quarantine for 14 days. and then take a test. If you choose not to have the test you have to wait 21 days.
We currently have 8 active people who have tested positive to Covid 19 and they have all been or connected with In bound travelers.
We currently have no restrictions once out of quarantine. We can gather in large groups, go to the pub, play billiards, shop etc. all without face masks.
Personally I think May will come around too soon for the vaccine to make enough of impact to allow free movement of Travelers I am afraid.
The government have done such a great job keeping their residents safe I expect them to make any hasty decisions.
I could be wrong and we will all see you in May.

Hi Darren, thanks for the update.... after the government announcing a lockdown tonight for at least a month I think that makes the event in Guernsey even less likely as I'm sure that the 14 day quarantine period will continue for quite a while yet.... 😢
Could the event be run later in the year as it would be a shame to lose it for another year? 🤔
Very glad to hear that some of you are able to play the game over there, stay safe and keep up the good work. 😎

Sad news that Guernsey has gone back into lockdown yesterday.... does anybody know when a decision will be made as to whether the Guernsey Open is likely to go ahead? I am reluctant to book flights as getting a refund from Aurigny never seems easy so any clarification would be appreciated. Stay safe everybody.

Sorry the committee has not met this year and no decisions have been made that I am aware of.
Yes we are in full lockdown again following 4 cases being found without an origin.
Since Friday we are now upto 52 cases due to community seeding. This does make the Open very unlikely and I expect us to be lockdown for 4-6 weeks at least from now.
I would love to see the event re scheduled for later in the year, the timing of this could be difficult as I see that the Bournemouth pairs has been pushed back to October and the Worlds still planned for November, will people be willing to pay for another trip?
Even though we do have the best one?

Thanks for replying Oge, obviously none of us know what will happen in the next few months.....
I think looking at later in the year would still give a chance for the competition to be played but, obviously, it would need to be outside of the "holiday season" as I assume that prices would be a lot higher for both flights and hotels during the busier period. With Bournemouth and Jersey both planned towards the end of the year, you may lose some entries of course but it is very hard to try to judge how many players would be available without dates and prices being known.
Let's hope we can beat this virus and return to some sort of normality soon.....

In light of the planned route map from the government have the committee made any decisions about this going ahead in May. Can still envisage visitors having to isolate, which would cause problems. Just need an idea as have to think about accommodation or in the case of those that have already booked it, cancelling or changing the dates if this is to be played later in the year.

We still have our booking in place at Les Roquettes. Happy to just roll this over to another date if one is fixed for later in the year. Like TJ, it feels to me that May will come too early for travel.

Good morning, hope you are all well and staying safe. Can I get an update on this years open, we have hotel bookings carried over from 2020 and would like to give the hotel owner as much notice as possible. Also, can you give us an idea if the competition will be re-arranged for later this year or postponed until the usual date in 2022. Thanks

Just had confirmation from Condor that out booked crossing has been cancelled in line with Government guidelines and that they will contact me to talk about my options. Assume this means there will be no flights either.
Looking for confirmation is the event going to be cancelled and take place next year as normal or are you thinking about postponing and playing later in the year. Would be good to know so can rearrange the hotel and travel as appropriate, thank you.

As for us, we are now getting asked about our hotel booking by the travel company. If the tournament is to take place later this year that would be great. We just need to get a feel for a revised date and we'll push our booking to then, given that we will not be allowed to travel for the original dates. If it falls that travel is OK for a revised date but then the tournament is put back to 2022 we'll come over anyway. Thanks all.

My outgoing flight for April was cancelled and whilst they haven't officially cancelled the return flight in May (I booked them separately) I have already received a full refund for both

Hi All
SO Guernsey are planning to re open their borders without travel restrictions from the 1st July. Unfortunately I have had no luck with the Guernsey committee on any decisions to run the tournament this year or next.
Internally we do move out of lock down on Monday, the committee may choose to meet and discuss after this date.
in the meantime if anyone else has any luck contacting either Tom Oliver, Matt Ogier, Ben Wilding or Luke Oliver please share any info you receive.

Hi All,
Just to confirm the Guernsey Open won't be going ahead this year, for obvious reasons.
We are aiming to try again next year, but we will confirm closer to the time.
