Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum and hoping for a little help. At the beginning of this year my wife and I decided to get a BB table to re-live old times. After a few failed attempts on eBay auctions, we ended up getting a ‘buy-it-now’ for £395 from a property clearance company in deepest Kent, knowing that it would need a little restoratio. The table is a SAMS model which had been treated rather roughly (removed with a fork-lift and left outside in the rain!), and we ended up disassembling, stripping, filling and re-varnishing the whole table over the summer months. All is now complete apart from recovering the slate and cushions, and here is my dilemma - I purchased new Peradon rings (the only ones seemingly available), but they are clearly too big. The holes in the slate are all about 61.6mm and the eight existing rings (one was missing) are about 61.2mm. If I do trim the Peradon rings down (currently 64mm dia.), I’ll need to take the sides down from 4.2mm to 3.1mm thick, which not only sounds like a lot of work, but doesn’t seem to leave much left of the rings. I know I could reuse seven of the rings (one I had to cut out), but I’d really prefer to end the restoration with a ‘good-as-new’ job. Any suggestions? Thanks Steve BB Table.jp2 (50.46 KB)

Hi and welcome.
If you look in the members maintenance section there is a bit about rings, modern Peradon rings are very poor reproductions of the original.
Can you post (as a standard jpeg) a picture of one of the rings you have now? All these were made too big and had to be sanded down, the Peradons are the same but have very little meat to spare.

Hi Sav, There were three different rings on my table. In my photo, the one at the back is 14mm high (4x), the one on the left is 19mm high (1x), and the one at the front is similarly 19mm high but has 4 buttons (3x). The one on the right is the Peradon at 18mm high. The slate and timber frame is 41.5mm thick and the holes beneath the rings are currently lined with what looks like a 20mm slice of black plastic piping. /Users/steve/Desktop/Rings.jpg Attachments:

That hotch-potch makes life more difficult!
I had hoped I might find a couple of odd ones to make up your set.
Irony is I gave three spare sets to Guernsey over the weekend!
I have a set of the ribbed ones but need to check size if they are of any use to you. 3D printing is the other option but getting that done in the pandemic is difficult.

Sorry, been out and checked, the ribbed ones are not fit for re-use.

Sav, Thanks for looking. I think I'll tidy up and reuse the original 'mixed-bag' of rings (to be honest they didn't notice as different when originally fitted) and perhaps cut down one or two of the oversized Peradon ones as necessary, whilst continuing a search for smaller ones.
Any update on 3D printing would be gratefully appreciated - I used to use Sketchup a lot, so that might be fun!
