Well done to Joe on winning his first open, very well deserved and extremely popular winner. He also gave an excellent speech afterwards. Mark gave it his all but not to be today
Congratulations to Matt on winning the plate, well done Ben on a great competition too
Thanks to everyone who worked extremely hard to get the tournament up and running, I know loads of people were involved but Darren, Champs and Paul worked so hard on both days running the admin desk. Thank you guys and all those behind the scenes

We have spoken to a number of you over the weekend already. However We would still appreciate some constructive feedback.
I would also like to see a table rating for the weekend. Tables 1-10 please give a ranking for each 1-5. 5 being good
Many thanks.

Overall I preferred this venue to the rocquetes. And I think the money made by the venue, would be much appreciated, a better cause. An excellent facility for the community. Table 8. Score 3. Speed cloth very slidey, thought the right cush was not consistent. Turps played this better then me. Table 1. Score 5. Liked this top. Slightly slower ran slightly left to the right 20. Knackered clock... Table 2. Score 4. Lost to curt and Fitz on this one... Table 10. Score 4. A good test. Very fast. But I did not have a problem with the one up, fast but still playable. Table 6. Score 4. Lost to Traff on this one. Led by 1500 on the first leg, drifted inside in the split shot area, I knew that mark would suss that And run in a big break, which he did... 2nd best tp I played over the weekend. Table 7. Looked like it was easier left handed... tricky. Score 3 and a half. A good tournament, thank you guernsey bar billiards. Geoff.

We have spoken to a number of you over the weekend already. However We would still appreciate some constructive feedback. I would also like to see a table rating for the weekend. Tables 1-10 please give a ranking for each 1-5. 5 being good Many thanks. Firstly, my thanks to all involved in organising and running the weekend. Guernsey has always been my favourite weekend away of the year, mainly because of the great welcome that we all receive and also because of the variation of the tables used in the competition which are so different to those used in the UK competitions and the Jersey World Championships. Congratulations to Joe Oakley on winning his first Open Competition in a tough final against Mark Trafford, also to Matt Jones who claimed the Plate Competition in another close final against Ben Wilding. Okay, my thoughts on the weekend and the tables.... Personally, I would always prefer to stay at the venue that the competition is being played at so I hope that it will to a venue that has that facility in the future, whether that is the Rocquettes or another hotel. Having said that, the KGV made us very welcome and the staff were all friendly and very helpful, however the location of the KGV meant that a lot of people did have problems travelling to an from the venue with taxis not turning up resulting in walks of over an hour for some players. I was glad that we decided to hire a car for the weekend which took away any problem with travel, however that added more than £150 to the cost of the weekend for us. I thought the rooms used made viewing slightly difficult for watching games, but no worse than Rocquettes for that. It was certainly better when the main lights in the room were left on rather than just using the table lights which seemed a bit underpowered.... which leads me nicely on to my thoughts on the tables.... Table 1 - 3/5 Geoff has already mentioned the problem with the clock, apart from balls seeming to hug the back cushion the table was ok. Table 2 - 4/5 Table seemed a bit uphill to me meaning the balls went outwards on both sides but very playable. Table 3 - 5/5 Best table in the room by a long way, quick speedcloth but well set up and you could either pot or split with confidence on it. Table 4 - 2/5 Very uphill, balls hugging both side cushions on way up and back. Tricky to spot the red ball on the break shot in the same place. Table 5 - 4.5/5 Slightly downhill but generally very good. Table 6 - 4/5 Had a few quirks but generally good Table 7 - 0/5 Where do I begin with this table.... uphill, cushions did not seem to be a matching pair (right cushion kicked in badly which was causing the problem with the break & one up, left cushion kicked long), 2 pockets lifting out of the holes (right hand 50 and 30 holes) that actually had balls bouncing off the rims in some games and set up at the maximum height on all 4 legs meaning the table was very wobbly to the extent that 2 balls dropped into holes and had to be replaced during the main final. A shocker.... Table 8 - 3/5 I found this table tricky and saw very few good breaks made on this table over the weekend. I didn't play either table 9 or 10 over the weekend, so I can't really mark them and would only say... Table 9 - looked slow and several players commented that spotting the red was difficult. Table 10 - looked very quick with players struggling to keep scores. As I said earlier, I have always liked the variation of the tables here, but I also know that most years the tables used are the ones that have been played during the season at venues on the island. I think that the tables used this year had been kept in storage so it is perhaps understandable that some of them were very challenging....

A few comments from me – Well done to Joe on his first open win, to overcome KT, Trevor and Traff to win an open is no mean feat. Hard luck to Mark. Well done to Matt for winning his 2nd plate in a row… The venue itself was very good, room a bit tight (and hot) but food and bar staff were excellent. The location unfortunately is a bit away from hotels etc and with taxis being nigh on impossible to book it did mean in some cases long walks home – not good after you have had a few (ask Tupps ) If the KGV was used again hopefully some sort of shuttle bus could be provided to at least get people close to where they need to go. If we are to go back to the Rocquettes I did go there Monday afternoon and they have refurbed so wonder how much the cost of staying there would now be – looks like they have made the room where we used to play bigger so that might be better – but don’t know the layout of it inside so cant say. With regards to the tournament itself Darren, Champs, Paul Le Gallez and team did an excellent job. Not sure we needed the 9.30am start both days though! Think it not easy to run the event from the side room so ensuring everyone ready to play at the same time not easy, maybe a PA system needed? Also felt that players ended up on same tables a bit too often…Chelle played all but one of her games on table 8 (main round 1 and plate round 1). I think players if possible should be kept off tables they have played and sure that can be tweaked for the future. Onto the tables. We know they from the past they offer a different challenge to those at home in the UK and are different to Jersey. Makes the tournament unique and gives it its own charm. Kept 5k breaks become important, and table run outs cannot be expected. However, I certainly thought they were tougher this year than in past years, I think some things need looking at for instance a few tables had lips on pockets which created a few unfair bounce outs. Also a few red balls were tricky to spot and sure that caused missed breaks. As feedback has been asked per table here we go Table 1 – 3/5 tough to get them back, and lip on right 50 hole a bit nasty! Table 2 – didn’t play Table 3 – didn’t play but looked the best one Table 4 – 3/5 struggled myself but saw Martin Smith play it very well Table 5 – 4/5 played alright Sat morning, not too bad (although Joe said I was crap) Saturday night, then I was crap against Stu Mepham who was less crap on Sunday. Table 6 – 4/5 found it ok to split Table 7 – 2/5 interesting really, struggled in doubles, worked it out to get 8k in a leg in the international, but by Sunday’s final looked very tough. That’s the thing tables change, but it’s wobbliness (if that is a word ) did not help Table 8 – didn’t play but looked tough to consistently get break and one up Table 9 – didn’t play but looked ok bar the spots being well out of line Table 10 – 2/5 brutally fast – made a 2k break and touched up… So (maybe a first ) find myself on the whole agreeing with Dave here. Hope this is taken as constructive. It is a great event and I will go and play wherever it goes. I had a great weekend and back at work today for a rest!

Like Nigel, I will also be back next year regardless of where the venue is and I hope that the points that I made will also be taken as being constructive rather than critical.

Thanks for the comments so far. We are happy to have them as we are taking them as helpful. We want to ensure we take the event forward and improve all the time.
As you all know the work starts again from here.
The staff at KGV have passed on that they really enjoyed the weekend themselves, despite copious amounts of alcohol everyone was very polite.
Thanks.
Darren.

Thank you Guernsey for a brilliant well run weekend. Looking forward to next year already.
The only comment I made to the organisers about how dark the black table was acted on within five minutes. Thank you

Hi
As a non player these are my thoughts.
The staff at the KGV went beyond anything I have ever seen with free coffee, tea, fruit juice and fruit. They were more than helpful and ensured you were catered to by even asking you if there was anything you needed. Brilliant well done them !!
The playing room was small and I did not venture in because of that.
It was out of the way but I had my car.
're staying at the hotel you are playing in.
Would La Roquettes want the games back ? Following their new refurbishment ?
Is there any mileage in going back to the Peninsula if staying at the hotel was best. This was a fabulous hotel and facilities were great.
In all that I have said, I appreciate the enormous efforts of the Guernsey Committee in running a great tournament for players.
My thanks Chris x

Hi all Here are just a few thoughts on our terrific weekend in Guernsey. Personally and on behalf of the Surrey boys and girls thankyou Guernsey. As hosts you Are second to none.A great competition admirably organised and run thanks to Darren,Paul, Champs and all involved. A new venue where you are always Going to have teething problems to get round. As said by many lovely club with smashing friendly staff. I do agree with Dave and Nige a bit out of the way especially with taxi hiring problems but personally We found the local buses brilliant and reliable. A bit tight downstairs especially around tables 2 an 3. Not ideal trying to run and admin from another room. As said tables provide there unique challenges. My own personal opinion.
Table 1 4/5 One of the best slightly sticky up the top but well playable. Table 3 4/5 Played it in doubles nice pace and true Table 4 3/5 Again played in doubles. Not straightforward balls hugged the cushions. Table 5 4/5 Blue cloth at 9.30 sat am different but a nice top Table 6 3/5 Didn't play it well drifting right a bit. Table 9 3/5 On the slow side. Red spot tricky Table 10 2/5 Very quick speed cloth not easy to play.
Never played 2 or 8.
PS Well done Joe on your first open win
