Had a play with the start times so no Sussex/Surrey players on at 10.30. Please understand we are under the time constraint of the line dancers needing to be in by 8pm so we need to start on time. 6 games on first series so hopefully we will have scorers for those games. Congratulations to Martin Cole on winning the AEBBA OTS competition today, beating Joe Oakley in a closely fought final that could easily have gone either way, Joe did win the high break award to complete a brilliant weekend for him.
Rick Cunningham "successfully" defended his plate title, beating Clive Thompson in the final.
Thanks as always to both Stuart's, Nigel, Jean and Matt for all their hard work organising and running another brilliant day and to the Roffey Club for hosting us again. 😀😎

Congratulations to Martin Cole on winning the AEBBA Off The Spot beating Joe Oakley in the Final.
Martin started the day slowly and only just got though his group, but after beating Nigel in the play-off round he got his head in the game and found some great form to take the title.
Joe Oakley was close to completing a weekend Off The Spot double having won the Sussex title the day before, but was just edged out in the Final where both players had chances. Joe also won the highest break with 14,900 in the second-leg of his semi-final against Matt.
Losing semi-finalists were Stephen Coleman and Matt Jones.
The Plate was won by Rick Cunningham who beat Clive Thompson in the Final. As has been said elsewhere this completes a double for Rick as he also won the Plate in 2021 (despite not even being able to remember playing in the tournament).
Have to say massive thanks to the following people:
Stuart Mepham for setting-up and levelling the eight tables Stu, Tony Jenner, James Whittle, John Slee and my nephew Alfie for moving the tables into the venue on Friday Dave Ingram for helping with set-up on the morning and for offering to drive the van back up North Nigel Senior for doing the format and running the admin desk Matt Knight for organising players and scorers and getting them to the tables on time. Also for doing the draw and presenting the trophies Jean Brackenridge for running the raffle and collecting the entries To Kirstie for proving the food and to the Roffey Club for hosting us To everyone for helped take down tables and clear the venue; this includes Stuart Mepham, Alan Brackenridge, Tony Jenner, John Slee, James Whittle, Chris Cox, Martin Cole and Rick Cunningham. Massive apologies to anyone I have missed, there was a lot of people helping which was great to see but difficult to remember! And finally for everyone who played and made it a great day.

Excellent report Stu Massive thanks to everyone involved in making yesterday possible and contributing to an excellent weekend of bar billiards. As mentioned it was great to see so many helping taking down the tables, makes the job so much easier when there are plenty of people Well done to Martin on winning the title, looked down and out earlier in the day but once he got through his group many people thought he would be a massive danger. Joe can certainly be proud of his performance over the weekend and was agonisingly close to a unique double, well done to him Rick Cunningham "retained" the Plate, I will be accepting no excuses from him on a Wednesday night anymore! Well done mate, well done Tommo too on being runner-up - think he is my lucky scorer as I got one back on Mr J Slee Nigel worked tirelessly on the format and, as Martin said in his victory speech the format had been debated long and hard but hopefully everyone enjoyed it, there was certainly plenty of bar billiards and names to call out!! Cheers Nige Finally, and he would certainly not mention himself, thanks to Stuart Carruthers for all his hard work and effort in making both days such a success, he also played very well on both days too

I would like to express thanks to the Sussex organisers for running what was a first-class event.
Nigel's formats for the weekend of "Off-the-Spots" proved popular - where else can you have a Plate run and finish up playing 11 frames of bar billiards in one day (-yes, knackered !) or if you're a top man like Joe O play 20+ legs over two days - the equivalent of a whole season - in getting to both finals ??
Tables offered a challenge and there was quite a bit of cursing (including from me) with lost breaks - but hey, that's the joy with OTS.
Already looking forward to next year and no doubt some of the top players who couldn't make it will do so next time around.
