As you would expect, plenty of banter between these two teams during the course of the evening in this top of the Premier Division clash with both teams in contention for the title this year.... before this match anyway! Matt told me at the end of the evening exactly what he would have written had he been doing the match report on here, so "Matt's Report" is shown below (with mine in brackets after).... Game 1 - "Stuart was very lucky" (TJ broke down on just under 3k, Stuart break back but missed first split. Tony break back, added 2.8k, Stuart pegged trying to get break back. Tony break back but missed first split leaving him about 5.5k up with 7 minutes left. Stuart played the table out with just under 8k to take the win) 0-1 Game 2 - "Grant was lucky" (Grant 2.5k opening break before missing a 10 split, Matt didn't get the balls back. Grant did and made a very steady 6.5k break to take the game, Matt played out the remaining time for his score) 0-2 Game 3 - "Bob was so lucky" (Bob off just under 8k when he whipped a split out, leaving Joe enough time to catch him but Joe missed his first shot by the 50 hole. Bob got the break back and touched as soon as he had made sure and they both had a couple of small breaks late in the game) 0-3 Game 4 - "Dave is always lucky" (Rick made a good start, coming off on just under 5k and leaving the balls in very awkward places. I played a couple of fairly creative shots off the side cushion, the last of which cleared all 3 balls including 2 down the 10 hole and started my chase. I got up to just under 6k before missing both balls on a very undecisive split shot. I will say that Rick was extremely unlucky not to get the break back and that I was very lucky that I did.... but I then played the table out to take the leg) 0-4 Game 5 - "Kev played well.... but was still lucky!" (Chunky was simply superb, never looked like missing and touched on just under 11k to give James no chance to "Whittle" him. Kev did get the break back again but pegged an ambitious split while nothing went right for James at all in the limited amount of table time that he had) 0-5 The noise levels certainly increased during the course of the evening, some brilliant banter from both sides with the atmosphere helped by a couple of the locals in the pub who provided vociferous support for the visitors on the evening! A couple of lovely pizzas with garlic bread and chips to end a brilliant evening in great company.

Due to illness (2) and holidays (2), the Marina B could not muster a team last night.

Master Mariner A 1 - 4 New Oak A Gary Mechan 6,310* - 2,480 Phil Osborne Steve Burns 1,910* - 4,630 Ian Lelliott Mark Scott 3,400* - 4,830 Bob Osborne Bob Mechan 1,740* - 1,830 Marc Chipman DJ Robins 1,360* - 7,520 Nigel Senior New Oak win 4-1 against Master Mariner - we have made a late season charge but think we left it to late In leg 1, Phil again put on first for us after he really did take me to the cleaners last Sunday at Surrey, for which he got a Paul Hollywood style handshake from Chippers upon entering the pub. Gaz gave Phil an early chance, but Phil didnt capitalise and Gary made a decent 6k score to put the Mariners 1-0 up Leg 2, Burnsy next up against Ian, Burnsy had plenty of chances but could not make much with his breaks and Ian had enough lead to level the match Leg 3 Again missed chances for the home side as Moppy should have put this away. Bob got the balls back level with a couple of minutes left and smashed in the break shot to get us 2-1 up Leg 4 so chippers on next to try and take the pressure of the captain. It wasnt a pretty watch as two opening breaks of 1k was followed by a chippers black peg. Another break later and chippers recovered to level the scores Not much was added with pegged breaks, missed balls but somehow Marcus sunk the last two balls to win the match by 90 points. 3-1 Leg 5 Nige a bit better than the cup game. DJ off on 600, Nige getting 4k, then losing 4k then another 3k to finish. Good night with the Master Mariner A, who will be a bit disappointed they didnt take some of their chances on their home table. Great pie, chips, gravy and sandwiches which I know Ian enjoyed. We will see if we can keep the momentum and win again in our final match against the mighty Caxton....

Game 1 - "Stuart was very lucky" Game 2 - "Grant was lucky" Game 3 - "Bob was so lucky" Game 4 - "Dave is always lucky" Game 5 - "Kev played well.... but was still lucky!"
Very accurate and enjoyable report as always Dave, I certainly did say all the above. Despite my jesting the visitors were deserved winners and put themselves in a strong position to win the title this coming Wednesday but the New Oak B will be tough opponents and we hope to put up an improved showing and give the Wellie a tough game too! Bar the result it was an extremely entertaining and fun evening
