As with most AE comps, it will be there for 11 for 11.30 start. This is subject to change, depending on how many entries we end up getting, we may have to start slightly earlier. The draws will be done middle of next week to work out timings etc. Thanks

Hi all, if we could have entries in by Thursday lunchtime (1pm) at the latest please.
There will probably be an earlier start time - I will try and do it so local players are on first up in the over 50s, probably go with 10.45 so we can get one series in before the 11.30 start time for the AE singles events.
both 50s and 60s will be straight knock outs. Understand that means for over 50s possibility of only one game for the half a dozen players who are just entered in that - there is little I can do about that really the threshold for groups is 24 for the 50s event and we have a pretty good entry above that number.

Hi all, Matt will be setting the tables up again Sunday morning, so if anyone can get there to help that would be appreciated, help needed especially for doing the lights etc.
We will try to start at 10.45 if possible but we can obviously only start when all the tables are ready.

A couple of things to note for Sunday 10.45 will be the start time or as near as possible to then so can players playing on the first series please get there and be ready for that time. Players playing at 12.15 in the over 50s may be playing at 11.30 in the over 60s so please check both draws. Also though the 10.45 will need scorers so even if you are not on in the first series please try and be there for the start or at least 11.30 as matches will also need scorers then. Players will need to score in competitions they are not involved in, so singles players will have to score 50s games and vice versa. All the singles players are on at the same time so cannot score within their own groups. Players may have to play on the same table more than once, given that a player would have to win 10 matches to win the over 50s and 60s this is certain if a player progresses that far. Tables will be allocated as fairly as possible. If a player playing in the singles makes the over 50s final an extra series will be needed to fit the final in, this will happen before the last series of singles matches. There are 6 players doubling up here, so please be aware this may be a possibility. So if this doesnt happen we should finish around 7pm, if it does around 7.45pm.

Over 50s Matt Knight beat Curt Driver - high break went to Matt Over 60s Dave Ingram beat Ernie Jordan - high break went to Dave Well done to everyone who participated, thanks, as always to Matt Jones and Cliff Slade with a few other helpers for their hard work in setting up the tables. Not many left at the end but thanks to those who did help especially Dawn Jordan who carried loads of items to the van, with Matt and I having a good laugh with John Slee and Gary Powell as we had a bit of fun dismantling the tables Thanks to Nigel Senior and Mark Trafford on their incredible efforts running 4 competitions on one day Sure Nigel will be adding a bit more detail later

A busy day indeed yesterday for the Over 50s and 60s. Well done to Matt Knight who captured his first national title winning the Over 50s. Matt beat the reigning champion Curt Driver in the final. there were a couple of early low scoring exchanges in the final but Matt settled to take about a 7,500 lead into leg 2. Curt pegged on 5k in the 2nd leg, and Matt made a in his words 'steady' 3k break for the title. Matt had been in good form all day, making 2 18k breaks and more 5 figure breaks in his 4 matches to get to the final. He also now has the rare achievement for the time being of having a 100% record in an All England event as this was the first time he has entered this. This he shares with 2008 champion Maxi McDonnell who played the event once, won it, and never played in it again - but Matt has promised to defend the title next year . Also he took away Curt's 100% record by beating him in the final. Another record Matt now has is the highest average in the competition - he scored 94,390 on the day so an average of 9,439 per leg - overtaking CURT to have the highest average...... All this after moaning in the car going up early in the morning! but guess it was worth it! Dave Ingram won the Over 60s title also for the first time. He beat Ernie Jordan in the final. Dave was fairly untroubled to the final but Ernie gave him a tougher game but Dave hung on to win 8,010-6,860. It was actually their 2nd meeting of the day - Dave won that one too in the over 50s quarter finals. Dawn was pretty concerned as Ernie was playing his 8th match of the day and ordered him to eat some food before he went into a diabetic coma.... A pretty large entry for both comps gave a few headaches to fit all the games in - especially when Curt made the 50s final and had a singles match to play, but it all worked out in the end - congrats to the 2 winners.

Just a quick note to add my thanks to all those who organised and ran this competition last weekend, it was a great day with lots of good matches in all 4 events that were being run. I am to have won the Over 60's title, even if I felt so tired by the end of the day (after 16 consecutive legs) that I felt more like someone over 80!
