Despite most of the week four fixtures being postponed late on due to snow, TJ had clearly foreseen this by postponing a couple of weeks before the fact. Get yourself on the tele TJ, we need better weather forecasters... Anyhow, first up the ever-reliable Martin got Redhill off to the usual winning start at home with a comfortable win against Steve, Martin pegged his opening visit but Steve didn't get the thin break right, pegging his reply. Martin then racked up 4k to get into the lead and he added to that for the rest of the match. 1-0. Next up was two-up Rick. Thankfully for him though Redhill captain Fritz had declared that it was impossible to leave the one-up short on this top and so that was no trouble. Rick was off after his opening visit with 1.5k and Tom's reply came to about 1k. After some play down the back end of the table it was Tom who got the break back. He then proceeded to have to get the break back regularly, with a variety break and split shots leaving one ball up. His play at the back off the table was superb, though, and a wonderful 6k that he worked very hard for was his reward. Rick had half a chance of catching, needing 4.5k in 4 minutes, but the pace was too tough pegging his break at just short of 2k. An optimistic 200 which almost evaded the black on the wrong side wiped out Ricks score, but it was Tom's frame regardless. 2-0. Worthing now had work to do and Roger was the man for the job, he was up against Joe who'd just returned from Burgess Hill having turned out for the Redhill As, but made no mistake at his second bite of the cherry, adding 5k to put the frame beyond Joe and chalk up a frame for the visitors. 2-1. Next up captain Fritz decided to have a go but he was off after just a couple of k. Alan got them back but sometimes it's not your night as he lost his break and let Fritz back in. 6k and tap for Fritz was enough for the frame and he later added a few more to push his score just beyond the 11k mark. 3-1. Vice captain Tom was then handed the reins for selection, and to the surprise of his team he chose Michael to go against the break. Perhaps this was based on Michael's moaning at the Salford's table in practice - he's always found it a bugger - or maybe there was some sort of double-triple bluff reverse psychology going on... we'll perhaps never know. Anyway Michael faced off against Alex teammate James who came off at just over a k. Michael settled into his rhythm but a shanked split shot on 2.5k saw him come off. James then set about building his lead, going for the two break then red over the 50 option after struggling with the one-up in his opening visit. This was going well, but could always lead to the ball getting stuck somewhere trick down the back of the table. Sadly James exactly this happened, with his break at 4k he left a ball right behind then 10. It's actually a shot that, with local table knowledge (i.e. if you know which way it rolls...) you can get quite easily, but his Alex teammate hadn't bestowed this upon him and James agonisingly missed the ball. Michael then just had to eat up the remaining few minutes by keeping the table loaded - which he did - to take the match for Redhill. 4-1. Pizza delivery man Alex then took to the baise against Dave. As had been the case all night for Worthing, Dave didn't get used to the table quick enough and Alex got in quickly. He added 6k in a couple of visits and by the time Dave got the knack of the table it was too late. 5-1. So some pride was still left to fight for as captain TJ took to the table in his usual number seven spot against Martin Greenway. After Martin had taken two points off TJ when they'd faced off just a week ago in the B-teams one-day interleague, there was more than just the team pride at stake. TJ always looked the more comfortable, and his ability to flirt with the white pegs was remarkable. He teased them as much as he dared while accumulating 5k, but never quite went for the full blown kiss. After his little dance was over he'd secured enough points for the frame, cutting Redhill winning margin to a fairer 5-2. A good evening with the Worthing crew and it won't be long before we make the trip to the Alex for the return leg where Worthing will no doubt look for revenge!

Thanks Michael a good report of what occurred, plenty of banter and a good night as usual. Was hoping James and Dave would get us to a decider but it was not to be. Redhill certainly took their chances far better the opposition look forward to the return at the Alexandra.

Brighton A 5-2 Tunbridge Wells - (played Tuesday 11/04/2023) **Phil Osborne 15,520 - 360 Martin Russell - excellent opener from Phil and touch giving Martin no chance Bob Hall 4640 - 8630 Gerry Fitzjohn** - Gerry off 3.8k, Bob first to get them back, in such good form expected enough but off on 4.2k, Gerry took advantage Matthew Knight 30 - 11,980 Curt Driver** - perfect opener from Curt gave me no chance, apart from a chance to miss a few splits which I did! **Kevin Hall 14,270 - 2330 Ian Wright - Kev in awesome form, excellent opener giving Ian no chance Jim Millward 7780 - 800 Richard Corbould** - Rich not at his best, even though he was first to get them back a couple of pegs costly. Jim made sure first visit, with an entertaining break to please the home crowd, although his earlier efforts to get them back were pretty woeful Chris Tupper 4920 - 4730 Bryan Stevens** - most competitive leg of the night, Bryan (cruicially) lost his opening 3k, Tupps (who turned up about an hour late ) built a good lead. Bryan played well to chase it but just ran out of time **Nigel Senior 5170 - 660 Peter Sainsbury - the captain going for a big one again but a little wayward early on. Then flying and was looking like 25/26k but whipped a split on 17k and pegged next shot. Pete got them back straight away but off first split and Nige finished off Enjoyable night and a good win for the hosts
