I recently attended an open day at the village snooker club, the league has lost a couple of teams and they were hoping to recruit a 'B' team, long story short they now have 10 extra regular players on practice nights, some have never played before and some are quite good, 'B' team sorted, weirdly I have been picked to play the first league game but I have a question regarding rules.
If you are awarded a free ball after a foul and there is a red hanging over a pocket that you cant see are you allowed to nominate a colour (blue for instance) and plant that ball onto the red to pot it?
I was told that would be a foul but my reckoning is that the free ball becomes a red so red on red plant should be legal.
Does anyone know the definitive answer?

You are correct and if both go in then two points are scored as there are more than one red balls.
However if the same happens on a colour then only one counts as there is only one of each colour.
