Although the first fixtures of the season are scheduled for the 13th September the Nomads v Salfords Y game was rearranged to start the week before. The new season saw a change of captain for the Nomads, as Michael took the reins during his first full season and he'll be hoping for a few more results like this. First up was Vice Captain Abbey who started with extraordinary style against Nev but the pegging of a thousand break saw that momentum disappear as Nev fought back and overhauled Abbeys lead getting the Salford based team off to a flying start. Next up the in form Jim - complete with a dazzling new blue cue - faced off against Redhill B captain Fritz. Jim found his 21/22 form to start the game as Mark steadily built up his lead but then JB sparked into life, overhauling Marks lead superbly only to spin out of the 100 and peg his 2k+ break. With time in his favour now Mark got across the line with sweat dripping from his brow. Third up was birthday boy JP, who was celebrating his 21st birthday - again. Sue didn't know what had hit her as JP, who claimed he hadn't picked up a cue since the final game of the last campaign, flew away with the match, barely missing a ball in a consummate display as he kept the Nomads hanging on by a thread. So now it was a captains clash between Michael and Anita and it was the AEBBA Challenger Champion, Anita, who looked the better of the pair. However about 2k into a break early on Anita put the break down four times, handing the advantage to Michael who just about made enough from the resulting chance to come out victorious. So the grand stand finale was set up at 2-2 and it was new captain Michael who - despite not being anywhere near his fluent best - eased away from Karen to take home the spoils and send the Nomads to the top of the table. It is therefore time, I believe, to call the season at this point. No need to play anymore games - I think everyone has had a fair chance and so whoever is top now should really be representative - so congratulations your champions for this year - the Nomads!!

New seasons fixtures; Rules; list of players with average over last 3 seasons (affecting who is entitled to the break) ... all now appear on Redhill's website. (Check League tab). Good work by whoever. Two slight discrepancies: says 2019/20 rather than 2022/23; and Merstham VC A is shown twice (no Merstham VC B !)

Jolly Brickmakers 1, Old Oak 4 (in order played) Steve 1350, Charlie 1870 (Steve unluckily did Charlie's job for him of losing the red after the bar had gone) Mike 1360, Martin 1560 (Dead level till the last shot, Martin sinking red in 100 at first attempt) Taz 850, Paul 2490 (Taz lost a useful opening break and after that struggled to make in impact) John 1950, Nick 580 (No luck for our captain for the night, John winning with some good steady play) Pete 640, Clive 4050 (Pete missing with both balls on the break, I won with hit'n'hold plus some outrageous luck re-assigned from Nick)
The Bricks' table played the best I have known it: slightly uphill and break difficult, but reasonably paced and very little in the way of roll.

Spcc A 4 Salfords A 1
Tracy 8130 Sheila 940 Laurie 1690 Zoe 4340 John 10320 Yvonne 1030 Junkie 2520 Trevor 1980 Vern 4280 Josh 0
First up Tracy and Sheila. Sheila with the honours on and off early gave tracy a good opportunity. A few shots in And tracy got the balls back and made a useful 3k break. Plenty of chances for both players before Tracy cleared The balls and made another terrific 4k break before Time ran out. 1-0.
Next on Zoe and Laurie and Zoe off with a steady 2k. The game then went a bit nip and tuck with plenty of goes Each. Laurie got them back but broke down giving Zoe another great chance And she made another 2k to take a good lead. Laurie with one last chance blew it when he pegged his last break 1-1.
Third up John and Yvonne. Yvonne on and off quickly gave me a good chance, balls back and 3k break . A few More shots each and I cleared the table 3k more and Yvonne back on. Just nothing going for her, one last chance And another 4k game was over.
Next up Trevor struggling gave Junkie a good chance. Junks balls back and going well pegged 3k and gave Trev Another good chance and he scrapped a small lead. A bit of tip tap and Junkie with one last chance got them back And nicked the leg.
Last but not least Josh v Skipper. Josh off early and everything got bogged down with neither player getting hold Of the top. (Don't know why)Eventually Vern got them back and a steady 3k break sealed the win.
A good 4-1 win if a bit lucky in a couple of legs was a good start to our campaign. A lovely evening with Sheila and the Salfords A gang. First competitive match on our newly recovered top and what a good won it is ( thanks to DJ ).
