The match was much closer than the scores above really indicate and the result turned on a few "moments" during the night.... Game 1 Bob never really settled and was off on around 4k, TJ break back but put the one up behind. Bob added another break of about 2k but was first to get them back again to make sure and he then added another break at the end. 1-0 Game 2 The newly crowned National Over 50's champion also never looked comfortable during his opening 4k break and could have been off earlier, a couple of good shots from Grant and he gets the break back. He had almost caught Matt's opener when the first of the "moments" arrived, with the red ball dropping off the spot just as he played the one up.... resulting in a pegged break. Matt gratefully took the chance, making enough without ever looking at his best. Grant finished the leg off. 1-1 Game 3 The big match up, Joe looked very comfortable on the table taking his time and he didn't look like missing until suddenly either a miscue or a kick (the 2nd "moment" of the night) on a one up meant he was off. Jim got the break back and made a superb 10k break to take the crucial leg against the break. 2-1 Game 4 I started well, didn't miss a 100 split until leaving the one up short (by a couple of miles!) on just under 4k, Chris got the break straight back and was up to over 3k when he put a ball in a horrible place behind the 50 hole and took the peg with his next shot ("moment" 3). A poor shot from me gave him another chance and we had a couple more visits to the table each before Chris got the break back only to have the same problem as Grant with the red ball slipping off the spot when he played the one up ("moment" 4) and although he kept his 2k break, the ball was left in a horrible place. I played another bad shot near the 50 hole and was straight off, Chris played a great shot to clear the ball by the peg but then didn't get the break back allowing me back on the table to finish off and take a very undeserved win. 3-1 Game 5 To be honest, I didn't see that much of this game (I was having a ciggie and trying to calm down after the previous game!) but I saw Rick come off early and Stu get the break back making about 3-4k. Stuart first to get the break back and made sure this time with 7k before adding another 5k at the end. 4-1 The result probably flattered us in the end and the match could easily have been won by either team, there were probably more chances than anyone expected on the night and plenty of the normal laughs and friendly banter between our 2 teams.

All I will say is I'll rather be lucky than good and scoring 420 on a split shot does allow you to build up your score quicker :)

Bevy 2 M.Mariner 3
Doug 5080 Gary 4290 Nice opening break from Doug , no luck for Gary , eventually got the break back but came off after a grand , fortunately for us when given a 2nd go there was not enough time. Liam 740 Steve 6780 Steve opening break of 4280 , always in control but Liam is improving every week. Bella 6690 Moppy 7010. Best game of the night, Moppy beat Steve's opening break with 5830, Bella chased well to gain an 800 lead but just leave Mop enough time to gain the win. Brian 6320 Darren 530 Brian always in control of this one. Kev 0 Bob 3100 Bob opened with 1500 , I got a 3k break including a whipped 50 into the 200. Bob got level and after a struggle at back of table , a ball sat just sticking out behind the 10 and I went up for it clipping the peg on way 😞. Game over.
Good evening with Gary and the team , table playing well in its new position and lovely chicken casserole and bread rolls supplied by the pub.

New Oak A stay unbeaten and go TOP OF THE LEAGUE with away win over the Caxton In other news Senior wins fiver on football card with correct call of Everton Caxton 0 - 5 New Oak A Peter Gwilliam 730* - 13,660 Nigel Senior Dayle Ledbury 430* - 3,380 Bob Osborne Paul Bramhall 780* - 7,880 Ian Lelliott Gregg Walsh 250* - 11,960 Phil Osborne Peter Gwilliam (4P) 1,970 - 2,170* Marc Chipman In leg 1, Nige went on to face Peter. Peter both balls short on his break, and Nige found the table to his liking making 7k. A couple of 3k breaks followed to wrap up the first leg. 1-0 Leg 2, Dayle on next for the Caxton, so Bob went on for us. Bob made some steady breaks to put the New Oak 2-0 up. Leg 3 Dover went aggressive now putting on himself and I put on Ian. Dover could not save the match here as Ian got over 7k. There was also a bit of foul language as Dover called the black peg a female body part when he knocked it over. 3-0 Leg 4 Phil on next and he played Gregg. Phil looked comfortable on the table as he hit a 5 figure score against Gregg 4-0 Leg 5 with the Caxton having to use the 4 player rule (where were you Reg?) surely a 5-0 win would be wrapped up now as I saved Chippers for the break. A solid opening break of zero from Marcus had me questioning my choice when both balls were left short. It became a war of attrition thereafter as few breaks were kept and lost. Marcus probably does hold one record this season - the most 200 pots - he made 2 last night but the 'sorry' afterwards after both shots indicated they were not really played for. It all went down to the wire, Marcus needing the 100 to win - and he got it first time! 5-0 Match played in good spirits - good to see Colin there and well done to him for providing an excellent table. Week off for us next week then the Moulsecoomb club away - we lost 4-1 to them last time - the only winner....Chippers
