Salfords A 3, Old Oak 2 Zoe 3450, Charlie 1590 Zak 1660, Nick 240 (2 x BP) Sheila 3010, Martin 4150 (close game, Martin coming good at the end) Yvonne 1050, Paul 1750 to make it 2-2. Teri 3580, Clive 1110 ...... table not kind to Clivey: lost my 2.5k opener, had an attempt at a three-ball clear when all three balls pulled up on the lip of the pockets; and immediately I cleared for the break-back at the end the bar went. In between, Teri played a solid game full of good shots and was well worth her win, so well done to her. A good spread of food provided by Sheila to end the evening.

Salfords Y 3, Salfords B 2 Wins for Fritz, Anita and Karen for the Y's, and for Dave and John for the B's. A bit of a Greek tragedy here as Tom spilled a match-winning 7k break against Karen.

Well, I don't really know what to say this week. I would usually start with a table of scores but - as you'll find out - I don't think that would do it justice. So instead I'm just going to write and you can figure it out as we go along.
First up the in-form JP took on Tracy. JP started well - added to this - he got a second chance at the break after Tracy put the break down four times without realising after a quite extraordinary 50-200 break! Tracy got back to the table though and made sure second time with a confidence boosting 3k to take the opener by 4460-3050.
Next on Abbey continued her good form from practice into the match against Junkie - but Junks made hay when he got his chance after being dropped the previous week for getting a net -30,260 in his previous two games. Not on. 4k was enough to overhaul Abbey's early lead and banish the demons of the previous weeks by winning 5720-1850.
Third up the ID-less Jemima, who managed to get through both Gatwick and Jersey airports without ID this weekend, faced off against the joker that is DC. Jemima started in promising fashion with 2k, but there was no messing about from DC (unusually) as he went about his business in a professional manner to make a 6k and tap for the leg before Jemima added another 2k late on. 6430-4560.
The next game provided South Park A with their only break as Laurie took on Michael but at first glance it looked like Laurie hadn't made use of it as he came off with only 1k on the board. Michael had one chance to clear but didn't manage it and Laurie added a further 3k. Michael then got the break back and added 4.5k, but to his frustration he could never comfortably leave a 100 split - so in an attempt to do so he played the 1-up with a touch less place, which left the white on the rim of the 50 - a familiar sight in his recent games in Jersey. Laurie played 2k and tap for the leg to win 7460-5000.
The best game, though, came last. Having made the World QFs at the weekend John Slee was brimming with confidence and he was yet to lose a game in the Redhill League this season. He was drawn to play "The Happy One" Max Burt, who was playing just his third bar billiards match period. You can see where this is going, right? Sleezy - despite being against the break - got on early but came off just as quickly but then had another chance and was off. Third times the charm, surely? Well no again John failed to make use of the break and although he was in charge points wise he was only 1.5k up with nine minutes on the clock. Max was in no mood to let John off though, he expertly cleared the balls and got himself on the break, only to push the red beyond the 50. This didn't deter him though as he mopped up and returned to the break. Despite a couple more trips to the top of the table Max was steadily accumulating and had passed John's score. He kept going and going and declined to make a mistake, playing a mixture of 100 and 10 splits as he got used to the table. By the time the bar went Max was still at the table and he'd racked up 3950 points. Having just played a split there were eight balls left to play out the table and beat John. 10 over once, 6 balls left. 20 twice, 4 balls left. 30 three times - one up please, 2 balls left. Stunned silence. Max hadn't heard the one up call and in his excitement hadn't realised this was time for the one-up. Having played the game with the red being the ball that goes in on the break he didn't compute that potting the whites was no difference. The fourth break went in. Max got up unassumingly and was met by stunned silence. DC, JP and Michael had no words until DC said "I'm sorry but that's no score". Max then realised what he'd done. He'd put the break down four times. It was a stirling break which had left the South Park players in a state of shock, and when they realised John had won that shock increased exponentially. An amazing end to the night as John kept his 100% record but dented his average, winning by the bizzare scoreline of 1490-0 on the South Park top.
So, a night of drama - good and bad - but as always it was a fun one. A whitewash for the home team but only by the skin of their teeth. Just to add to Max's misfortune, he was so happily chatting away about his game and how delighted he was for making what was a stellar break, he managed to leave his work bag and lanyard in captain Michael's car which meant for a little detour back to Max's to make sure he was actually able to work and tell his colleagues of his exploits the day after. Quite the night.

Somehow Spcca 5 Nomads 0
As Michael has reported in his superb post what a night. Some great games where the scoreline in no way Reflects the evening's events. Laurie pulling out all the stops to beat Michael. Tracy playing a blinder to beat JP and Jim giving DC a run for his money. As for the last leg and my daylight robbery of the evening. In my entire career I can't ever remember being so lucky To win a match. I felt as did my whole team gutted for Max. In only his 3rd league game to play so well is a fantastic Aachievement he should be proud of .I said never do that again mate . Its wonderful to see 3 youngster's with Michael, Max and Abbey in the same side achieving such a high standard So quickly and I am sure will only get better. Well done.
