Hi all a day early the South Park Derby!!
SPCC A 4 SPPCC B 1
Laurie 7320 Denise 3830 Vern 5240 Tom 2870 John 530 Mick 11290 Tracy 5240 Gennette 3310 Dave 7910 pete 5120
First up Loz and Denise fresh from a double triumph (as mr Wilson has posted). Laurie off with a steady 3k and Denise in with a shout balls back but pressure on. Denise made a break to put her back in with a chance. Laurie next to get the balls back made no mistake and sealed the win.
Game 2Tom and Skipper. Tom off early and Vern with a chance made 1500 . Nip and tuck for a while and a bit of a battle. Scrappy till Vern got them back and a Fine 3k break was enough . 2-0 and a bit of a surprise
Next on me and my "Brighton Supporting Buddy Mick". He owed me one from the last time we met and so it was to be. Mick broke off with a near faultless 8.9k and touch. One hit and Mick got them back and played it out.
Game 4 a smashing ladies match with two fine lady players. Tracy off with a few but Genette back in with chance. Tight game of nip and tuck, both girls struggling To put the leg to bed. Gennette in with a good chance late on only to peg a good break and Tracy won a very important frame 3-1.
Last but not least Dc and Pete. Pete off early and great chance for Dave. Head down and faultless play as only Dc does under the cosh 7.9 k and touch eventually.. Pete still time to get the balls back and make a few to the bar.
A lovely evening with the B's as always. Loads of friendly raucous banter. Perhaps a shade lucky but a superb win against the b's following on from a disaster on mvc Top. Nice to play "On a Belter"

Well done on the match win, and in the circumstances bet you didn't mind receiving the "chorus"!

MVC B 4, Old Oak 1 Bud 7810, *Nick 1000 Colin 2990, *Charlie 1230 - Charlie nearly 2k ahead at one point after Colin missed a ball on 3k. He had to dig deep to win the game twice over! Gary 10,160, *Paul 1670 *Geoff 10,640, Clive 2540 - 2 goes to my one; Geoff's opening 7.5k gave me no chance. Thought I was gonna play out time, but the ball moved and I left a one-up short on 2.5k and Geoff did instead. Tony 2010, *Martin 5580
Pleasant evening with the B's. Table played well tonight, not holding its usual terrors! A great showing from our captain who saved our blushes.

Salfords B | 1 | v | 4 | Nomads | Liam* | 1950 | - | 5010 | Jemima | Tom | 4590 | - | 5300 | *Michael | Dave | 2370 | - | 2240 | *Max | Caroline* | 570 | - | 4040 | Bruno | Mark | 0 | - | 130 | *JP |
Now that the pesky football has passed us by this rearranged fixture could be played. First up Liam made a good start, getting 1k on the board before Jemima could find her stride. But a few Fosters down her gullet and Jemima was away - once again putting on a fine display and getting 5k on the board, plenty enough to take frame 1. 0-1. Next up was the captains clash and Michael made full use of the break by scoring 450 and sliding the one up past the 50. From then on the game went back and forth, Tom added 2k before Michael replied in kind with 2k. Another missed one up left Tom in again and another 2.5k put him 700 up, but with the bar looming Michael got back to the table and this time put the match to bed, playing the remaining minute or two out for the victory. 0-2. Third on was Caroline and Bruno (as Max had a delayed arrival). Sadly for Caroline her game was rather foreshadowed in the opening thirty seconds as firstly the red slipped out of her hand when trying to spot it for the first time and it flew around the angles and almost back to the spot. Then after it was spotted her break was a touch thin and both balls were left up! Bruno was in no mood to waste this opportunity and made a wonderful 2.5k break - his highest competitive break so far - and did well to keep them with a delicate shot to roll up to a ball he'd accidentally left between the 100 and 200. Overall Caroline's bad run continued and Bruno posted his first score of over 4k to take the Nomads across the winning line. 0-3. Next up Max did his very best to almost beat another Surrey supremo as he came up against Dave. Max was in wonderful form as (having only just arrived) he asked if this was the team with "Mark Fraser and the Blackman's?". It wasn't, but they were playing on the adjacent table and Max immediately tried to start a conversation with Fritz... this would have been wonderful but given 1) Max was meant to be breaking off, and 2) Fritz was rather busy scoring, he could have chosen a better time. Anyway Max did eventually migrate back to the correct table and kicked off proceedings with a very calm 1.5k break. At this point we didn't know it, but Dave was going to have a big battle with his table. Without getting the balls back Max returned to the table and the frame went scrappy. Max made multiple hundred-odd contributions while Dave desperately tried to tease the out of their hidey holes and back to their rightful place -in the tray. But it wasn't happening for Dave and with 14 mins on the clock Max was 2k to the good and looking like he'd put the demons of South Park to bed. However Dave made a brilliant 7-ball clear and returned to familiar territory - the break. But there was another twist, with the break at 1.5k Dave had missed the split, there was no more than a minute to go and Max just needed to occupy the table to win! Miss. Max had played his shot a little too straight and Dave was back at the table. He cleared them quickly but as the last two balls disappeared... CLUNK. The bar was gone. Dave was 220 behind with the red and five whites left. Victory was in sight and Dave duly rolled in the three break shots to claim victory by the finest of margins. 1-3. At this point the night seemed to have provided it's main course, but the real drama was yet to come. The Nomads' form man, JP, started strongly and took a commanding lead against Mark. Several breaks of a few hundred had helped him to a lead of 2k, and this stood as the bar went. But their was a little late drama when a white was left between the 10 and the 100 with one other ball left to play with. JP had a 2k lead and so, wisely, decided not to go direct at the tricky final ball. So he played the ball off the right hand cushion - but he'd judged all wrong and the ball rimmed around the 50 and headed straight for the black! In fact it nudged the black over and had missed the 200, meaning JPs score had gone from 2.5k to nothing! Mark now took to the table with an unlikely victory at his fingertips, as he now led 230-0, and all he really needed was to not lose those points. JP quipped "make sure you don't do it like me!". Mark replied merrily, "I don't plan too!" However, despite that being the plan, Mark proceeded to play a picture perfect replica of JPs shot. The one cushion escape turned into right cushion, rim the 50, roll agonisingly towards the black and clip it over without disappearing down the 200. 0-0. Unbelievable. The emotional rollercoaster had well and truly been ridden and with nothing more to lose JP decided to attack the tricky ball directly and clipped it into the 30. But all that meant was he would have the first go at the decisive 100 shot. Thankfully this time he stayed well away from the 50 and potted the final white in the 100 first time, capping off a truly remarkable game. 1-4. So an evening full of entertainment and close games and played in good spirit - speaking of, it is now time for the Christmas spirit so I shall be back on the other side once we reconvene in 2023.
