SENIOR SINGLES QUARTER-FINALS
This competition will be played on a home and away basis, each leg being the best of two frames with the home player taking the break in the first frame, if the games are tied on the second leg a third game will be played on the night, with equal breaks being decided on the toss of a coin.

I don't know any of the results atm but will get an update.
I understand that as there are only 3 entries on the Ladies Singles & Mixed Doubles Derek is going to arrange Round Robin comps for both & I will give further info when it's available.

Ladies Singles Round Robin competition. This will be held on Wednesday 12th April at The Hassocks 8.00pm. Jan Smith Liz Lancaster Ros Appleby A good night of Bar Billiards at the Hassocks, all matches played in a friendly & competitive way. It was good to see support for the players on all sides. Jan V Liz = 2-0 First leg was close with Jan having the edge. The 2nd was much the same with Liz close to making it one all but a ball that missed on the way up came back just nicking the black. Very undeserved. Liz V Ros = 0-2 Good play from Ros in both games & Liz making a game of it in the 2nd. Ros V Jan = 2-0 Ros in front throughout the first leg. Drama in the 2nd with the clock running slightly short so another coin used. Ros 4 points Jan 2 points Liz 0 points. Congratulations to Ros on winning the comp. |

Mixed Round Robin results:
Ros/Neil vs Liz/Huw
Game 1 Neil/Ros
Game 2 Liz/Huw - a decent mid game break by Huw, backed up by steady play from Liz.
Liz/Huw vs Jan/Dave
Game 1 Jan/Dave - the pegs simply flew down in this game (I was scoring and was up and down like a jack-in-the-box!) Jan played well & was the only one managing to build and keep a score.
Game 2 Jan/Dave
Ros/Neil vs Jan/Dave
Game 1 Ros/Neil - we had a lead of about 1k for most of the game, until Dave got the break back and overhauled it by about 300, coming off just before the bar. I got the break back just as the bar went, trapping the red and a white, leaving me to break 3 times to win.
Game 2 Ros/Neil - Neil got the break back mid game and made a determined 5k break (the highest of the night by a considerable margin!) putting the game beyond retrieval.
Final result:
Ros/Neil 3 points
Jan/Dave 2 points
Liz/Huw 1 point
An uncharacteristically tricky HH table tonight: I don't think there were any breaks that got to 2k until Neil's great effort in the last. Games played in good spirit, with chances for everyone. Jan and Dave so nearly pulled off the match win in the first leg of the last series.

Roy Wells Charity Cup Final
Plough beat Hassocks 4-2 last night on a very playable HHSC table, so long as you remembered to hit the break hard enough
Nice sociable evening with neutral support from Messrs Giffen and Sparksman
Wins for Chase and Ric in the singles, Dave/Jan and Chase/Ric in the doubles for the Plough, Derek and Andy for Hassocks
Big thankyou to Mick and the club for a lovely spread of food

I can understand where Neil is coming from. This will be a tough ask fitting matches in before presentation night. Seems you were spot on, Gary: Take just two of those left in. Mick Kirwan if he kept winning would face a Pairs semi-final (with Richard) against Dave and Chase and a Final against Del and Tel. And a Singles Q/F v Derek, S/F v Neil and Final against Richard or yourself. That would mean 5 matches to fit in in 4 days. Derek's schedule is even more alarming: Singles Q/F, S/F and Final; Pairs Final (with Tel) against whoever; and in the Seniors, home and away matches versus Chase (Semi) and then Neil in the Final. Potentially 8 matches.  |

As far as I know Richard has a problem with his shoulder so there has been a delay in some quarter & Semi Finals.
I expect there will be an update after Wednesday. Until then I can't give any further updates.

What is needed then is an announcement from the Competitions Secretary prior to the Presentation Night as to the way forward. Otherwise you are not being fair to the remaining competitors - some of whom may have holidays booked with June rapidly approaching. |

Finally, we brought the men's singles for 2022/2023 to a conclusion last night at the Hassocks. I beat Neil 2-0. Thanks to Ros for scoring. Think positive, all completed before the new season!
