While at The Oval yesterday, with the esteemed Mr Freeman and Mr Shaw for company, we received word that a certain cuddly chap from years past was also sitting soaking up the sun, while watching Dravid make the slowest dozen runs in test history! ::) :-[
Meester Blobby; the Blobster - or to offer the proper name; Mr Neil Martel. Those of you who know Neil will be relieved to know that he has not changed at all; the countenance, the girth, the humour and bonhomie; all there. It was great to catch up with him, and IF the little germ I planted in his mind develops, then who knows... Neil Martel and Nick Trish as a guest pairing in the WSBBL mens doubles next season? Now, that I would pay to see! :D
For those of you who have not had the opportunity to meet Neil - ex chair and secretary of our league; the instigator of our Masters Competition (and we let him win it the first time around too I believe), Jersey and inter league veteran and all-round good egg.

Ah, dear old Neil.......... Already of notoriety on this forum: Mentions of Chess and of Guernsey have sent me on another trip down memory lane. On one of my last visits to the British Isles Open - now World Championships - in Jersey, wifey and I accompanied Gareth Lloyd over on his first visit (he got to the last 8 incidentally). He didn't want to fly and we always sail so we took him under our wing. I took a chess set over with me and over the course of the weekend managed 14 games (with a 100% success rate, but modesty prevents me from mentioning that !) ;) Those with most idea of how to play were Lloydy himself, Ian Street of Eastbourne and Ian Champion of Guernsey - who appeared on Telly a couple of years ago on Blind Date, but that's a different story...... The last match I played was against Neil Martel of West-Sussex on the Sunday night and it went on well into the early hours, by which time we were both p!ssed. I finally got back to my room at about 4am only to find wifey crashed out in the corridor in an even worse state (she had entered a drinking contest with the Eastbourne lot). :P

I do also have pictorial evidence by the way.
Not, you'll understand, a lifesize image - there's bandwidth to consider here, after all. One snippy-snapped on the moby.
I'll pin it up on here...
Actually, I won't.
He's been nailed to the WSBBL site. Go see if you are curious. ;)
