Well I am not sure how we got away with this one but the Brewery Tap A beat the Romans B 3-2 at the Romans to stay on top.
Chris Cox 630* - 10,610 Gareth Lloyd
Bob Thomas 3,720* - 2,160 Richard Wooton
A.Ishag 1,050* - 990 Marc Chipman
Roy Marsh 1,560* - 7,860 Nigel Senior
Colin Green 280* - 2,280 Chris Reeves
Game 1 - Chris off early and Gareth responded with a killer break in what was by far the best performance of the night. Lloydy now played 15, won 15.
Game 2 - Bob made a steady opener of 2k, and Richard got the break back buit missed the one up only just behind. Bob was able to get the break back and to level the match 1-1
Game 3 - Not sure of the lads name but on debut for the Romans against Marc. He built a 500 point lead but went through the black peg. Marc then made a 200 or 300 point lead in what was a very scrappy affair, but it looked like he would squeak home with a score of less than 1k. However it was to be 2-1 to the Romans as a couple of balls went down the 100 for a 60 point win.
Game 4 - Roy was off cheaply and Nigel settled in with a 4k break, further breaks were added by Nigel to score close to 8k and setup what was to be a shocking decider...
Game 5 - Colin went off with 2k, and after a few goes Chris finally got the balls back, but missed his first split very fat. Colin back on and managed to just keep his score but was now 4k ahead with little time left. Chris did get the balls back but the Tap felt their fate was sealed when he left the one up short - but he was probably chasing too many on a not very quick scoring top. Then Colin did the unthinkable. Still well over 4k up a ball was near the 100 hole and Colin decided to go up the middle....the right hand drift took out the black peg, and the bar dropped shortly afterwards. 3-2 to the Tap.
The Romans will have a chance of revenge next week in the cup, but there is no doub they should have beat an underperforming Tap side.
